UNBELIEVABLE... and that's not a good thing!

Moving into my first apartment was exciting, until I saw the dump I was assigned. It looked nothing like the apartment we were shown that was vacant at the time, nor the apartments that our friends rented there which seemed relatively nice. The walls were cracked and uneven, the paint job was atrocious, the mildew and filth left behind in the apartment was honestly a nightmare. To top it all off, the apartment wasn't even ready when we moved in the carpets and paint were still wet! It took multiple days of cleaning and still never quite reached a liveable condition. The windows were so poorly insulated that a strong draft of cold air came in during the winter months thus increasing out electric bill to an outrageous four times as much as the summer months when running the AC. There were also many other problems that arose during our stay in which maintenance were more than just slow to respond, we had problems that went unresolved for literally months. One complaint took several visits to the office and phone calls and finally was fixed five MONTHS later! Some complaints, were never fixed from the time we moved in until the time we moved out, which is absolutely rediculous. When maintenance actually would show up, they were basically incompetent. Everything they claimed they fixed still didn't work after they left. As a full time student working two part time jobs, I found it extremely frustrating and time consuming trying to keep on top of the office staff and maintenance to deal with or fix any of the numerous problems we had during our stay. I don't feel that any complaint, especially a SERIOUS one, should take ten phone calls, three personal visits and still go unresolved months later. The "funny" part of it all, is when we moved out, and one of the office staff finally came over to check us out, he commented that our apartment was in an unlivable and unrentable condition. He was astounded; yet he was one of the staff that made promises to us over the phone to have things taken care of right away but aparently never took us seriously when we explained the magnitude of the problems with our apartment. Village of Lancaster Green was the worst experience of my life. One good thing I learned from it, is to always demand to SEE the actual apartment you will be living in and get their word in writing as to what they are responsible for and if they don't hold up their responsibilities, then it voids the lease. Village of Lancaster Green does not list their responsibilities to the renters in the lease therefore creating a convenient loop hole. Beware of what you're getting into!
