First and foremost, I would like to say that I didn't hate Brookside Manor. Brookside has the potential to be a great place. Most of the people who live there are friendly and the area is safe. There were a problems that we encountered over our year in the townhome, but maintenance was responsive and repaired the problems in a timely manor. Maybe I was just one of the lucky ones' The neighborhood isn't too bad and it's located in a decent part of town. Right behind the complex are a series of stores within walking distance - that was nice.
The problems we had were with management. First off, the place they show you is their 'show room'. After signing the lease, the townhome they provided us with was much more weathered. The carpets were stained, walls scratched, and one of our closets actually had a hole in it!! We were told to make a list of everything damaged so we did. In fact, I went in to the office myself and handed it to the manager who sold us the lease.
A year goes by and they decide to raise the rent 70 a month. We find a new place and once the lease is up, we move out. We were relieved to get out of that place! But this is where the fun begins! Just last week a received a letter from Brookside asking for $800 dollars in damages! The damages were as follows. $100 for carpets cleaning, $400 for carpet replacement, and $300 for wall paint!. If you've read this far, take a look at the last sentence....both a carpet cleaning fee as well as a carpet replacement fee'' I called the office and left 3 polite messages expressing my concern...no call back. A few days later I called several times just to reach a secretary who takes my number down....no call back.
After reading the lease and our copy of the original damages, I have contacted my attorney.
If you are considering moving in here, beware! I am an honest person with an honest story! Brookside goes through management staff on a monthly basis and apparently they don't keep accurate records on their tenants!

Well sorry to break it to you but out of curiosity I looked at my lease too from Brookside and it clearly states in the property rules under "Decorating" that the use of contact paper, wallpaper, COLORED PAINT, paneling or permanent mirrors is not permitted". Sounds like it was clear at least for the painting end of it. Maybe next time for your carpeting you should take pictures or contact mgmt again if you were so concerned about your carpet being stained.

Wow, sounds like we both have a HUGE problem with management.. I have had nothing but problems with my apartment since I moved in earlier this year. The workmanship is a complete joke. The walls in my apartment have probably been painted over 30 times and there are paint drips & uneven paint marks all over the walls. The baseboards? Ha!
MANAGEMENT SUCKS. I hope you take their a$$es to court & throw them under the bus, I can't wait until my lease is up!
