Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2006
Well, I lived here for 2 years, and in the end I was sorry to leave, but this place is not without its problems. When I moved in, my apartment was spotless. I got a one bedroom jr., which may as well be an effeciency. It was very tiny, and my rent was pretty high considering the size. I took it anyway, because water, and heating were free. The reason I moved out is because not only did they increase my rent, but they're now charging for water and heat (all year).
Parking was ok, the construction of the building seemed very questionable, maintenance always answered a call very quickly, but their work is not the best... Management changed 2 times while I was there, and their only care is money. I told them I needed a little help with all those increases, and they said they could make more money off my apartment if I moved out, so that's what they'd rather do. Unfortunately, I had no choice. The community room was a good idea, but it's usually used as a playpen for all the children of parents who don't want to be cooped up in tiny apartments with their kids all day. There's cable tv down there and one computer with internet, but don't expect to have full use of it. Much of the time people are on it (teenagers in the past few months - who are really supposed to be accompanied by an adult, but management doesn't really enforce things like that), and if that's not the case, when you do finally get on the computer half of the websites won't work due to "Cyber Patrol" or the lack of ability to download flash.
I didn't have many bugs in my place. Never a roach or a rodent. A fair amount of centipeedes, and the occasional spider. Oh, I had dead ants. I really don't know what that was about. The ants would seem to come from the wall facing outside, and only survive long enough to get 2 feet in, then they'd die. Pretty strange. When I spoke to management about it, they said there was nothing they could do, and they did exactly that. I just had to vaccuum them up all the time.
When I moved in, I didn't have to pay a security deposit, and when I moved out they didn't charge me for anything, so I'm guessing they'd give back a deposit if the apartment is reasonable at the end.
Storage units are bad. Just pieces of broken wood with nails hanging out all over. Some don't even have latches. It was icky in there, and there were bugs. Laundry was ok. I hate the laundry card. I accidentally dropped mine once, and when I went back it was gone. They charged me $25 to replace it. If you have any money on it when you lose it, that money is gone. It's just a stupid idea all together. The washers & dryers were ok. I didn't have a problem with them. Tenants, on the other hand, I'm not so sure of. I heard laundry stories, but never experienced them in person.
Speaking of tenants, this is probably the biggest downfall. They do not screen the tenants, and they will truly let anyone in there. There have been people who blast their music 24/7 (my own personal neighbor!), those who let their kids run wild everywhere, those who have domestic abuse problems, some have been arrested, some evicted (that's a plus, but screening would be better). The hallways each have their own stomach churning odors. Management promised to put weather stripping in to prevent that, but never followed through (surprise, surprise).
Anyway, you get the idea. If I remember more I'll add comments later. There were a lot of faults, but I really did have a positive overall experience the reason I didn't list the good things is basically because the best part was that they pretty much left me alone.
Oh yeah, and they used to only allow cats, but now they allow anything. People had huge mean dogs (and I'm a dog lover), that were not under control. Several of us including myself were pounced upon in the hall and lobby areas. Just a warning.
Ok, good luck!
