Don't Do It!

Please think twice before moving in to this place!
I have lived here for a year and a half and can't wait to move out in 3 weeks! There are several main reasons I did not enjoy living here:
1. Poor Construction
-They will advertise "newly remoldeled units". Ha. All appliances are of extra cheap quality. Walls are paper-thin. We hear everything (neighbors walking up and down stairs, people talking in normal voices, etc.)
2. No washer/dryer
-There are a few (about 5) apartments that have a washer and dryer in the apartment. The rest of the apartment dwellers have to use the two washers and two dryers in the basement. The laundry area (in our building) has had lights out for weeks, one washer is broken, you have to go to front office to "fill up" your ONE laundry card and the laundry area is rarely (once every 2 months) cleaned. With two washers and two dryers for ONE apartment building (which has at least 20 apartments), good luck trying to find a working, open washer (unless you like doing laundry at 3AM on a Tuesday morning).
3. Poor Upkeep
-The common stairwells look like you're living in a ghetto. Marks, cracks, even writing on the walls and they will still not at least paint the walls (ours has not been cleaned/painted in at least 2 years). Lightbulbs in the stairwells are left burned out for weeks. Any cooking smell from the apartments lingers in the stairwell.
4. Parking/Snow removal
-No assigned spaces. Very hard to find a parking spot after 6pm. If you come home after that, expect to park on the street. Snow removal is a joke. During last winter's snow storm, we were stuck (quite literally) for three days before they plowed our parking lot. When it was plowed, it looked like it had been done by a three year old with a shovel and bucket. Salting for ice on the sidewalks is done around once a week, and I have seen two people in our apartment fall on ice in front of our common door.
5. Power/Maintenance
-Expect to be without power (i.e. without hot water and/or electricity) at least twice a year (for at least a day at a time). Last year our power was out for 3 full days). The front key pads (which is the only way for visitors to let you know they are outside waiting for you) are often non-functional (ours has been broken for 2 weeks).
6. Air Conditioning/Heat
-Wall Air Conditioning Units. Expect average PECO bills in the summer to average $200.00. Very drafty. Heat (which they are always touting as a perk, since they pay) is based from the hot water heater (see my blurb about the power/water heater going out).
7. Maintenance
-When maintenance shows up, they do a good job. I don't know whether to fault the maintenance crew or the front office, but our building has been complaining for months, even putting up a request on the bulletin board, to have them paint the stairwell area and to make sure to salt icy sidewalks. No response.
Sorry this is so long. I just want people who are thinking about renting here to reconsider. If you can afford this place, go to the Korman Communities complex down the street on 30. Same price and better everything!!!!!!
