Beware Hidden Charges!!!

Here is a list of hidden charges that I was not informed of until I sat down to sign the lease:
1) $28 for sewage each month
2) $200 automatically taken out of security deposit at end of lease for "impovements" on top of any other repairs they make.
In my opinion, they should have been up front about these charges before I was in the middle of signing my lease.
When I moved out, I only received about 2/3 of my security deposit even though the apartment was *very* clean, as I had spent a day cleaning before I moved out. They will charge you to paint the garage (if you have one) and the hallway regardless if there are any marks on it. I found that when I moved in, if there was a small spot on the wall, rather than clean it with a sponge they would just paint it over. Of course, with this philosophy, I expected them to charge me for painting when I moved out.
In regard to the maintenance staff, I needed to call them to replace the light bulb in the garage and it took them two tries and they replaced the wrong light bulb each time. Also, when I moved out, I was informed I needed to schedule an appointment for them to look at the apartment. They insisted on Saturday at 8AM and then they never showed up.
All in all, the apartments are nice and clean. The maintenance staff is a little "iffy" and the office staff was nice after I moved in. I was just left with a bad taste in my mouth because of the hidden charges.
If you do end up deciding to move in here, you have to be prepared for the hidden charges and be prepared to only receive about 1/2 to 3/4 of your security deposit regardless of how clean you leave the apartment.

I have a follow up to this - we had a furnished corporate rental here for three months, only three months, no more or less, three months. My husband flew into Pittsburgh and just managed to arrive at The Pointe before 6 p.m. to pick up the key. There was no walk-through nor was he even told of a walk-through. The rental for a one bedroom furnished was $2,000 per month. The furniture was old and mismatched, the mattress on the bed dirty and very uncomfortable, the bedding old, very thin and falling to pieces, the bath towels old and the saucepans rusty. When I joined my husband I told the management office about the state of the saucepans etc. and nothing was done about them. We went to Target and purchased our own saucepans to use. The refrigerator and stove were not particularly clean. The furniture was old and there was even pizza down one end of the sofa. Anyhow when we were due to leave we wondered what to do with the key, so I walked down to the management office and told them we were leaving (we had a three month lease remember) and I was told we needed a walk-through before leaving. We scheduled this with maintenance who were very complimentary on how spotless I had left the place (I had made the bed up with clean, albeit old, linen even though when my husband arrived he had to make the bed himself, scrubbed the bathroom spotless, cleaned the refrigerator and stove, etc. We were horrified when several weeks later we had a letter from the management at The Pointe that not only were they keeping our $1,000 deposit but that they also wanted another $1,000 plus more because we had not given them a one-month notice of leaving. This was purely a three-month rental. They were also charging $200 for the redecoration fee. This was a furnished apartment for three-months only. We had no pictures to hang, we were there temporarily instead of living in a hotel, while we looked around for somewhere to live, and the place certainly had not been freshly painted before we moved in. We assumed this was an apartment just for corporate rentals. This has left me disgusted with the management at The Point. They are obviously not honest and up front. They claimed that the young lady our company had dealt with was no longer in their employment. They are dishonest and obviously not honorable. We have owned a home for 30 years and not rented for 30 years, so were stunned by the unethical practice of this management company. This experience has left us with a very bitter taste in our mouths too. |
