From Immaculate to a Run-down Ghetto

When I first moved into Birnam Wood in 2002, I loved it. It was older but immaculately maintained, the location was ideal (near the school, library, mall, turnpike, and major roadways) and the apartments were large and affordable. Plus, the staff was very friendly and helpful. If you needed maintenance, they were there in an instant. I saw myself staying there a long time.
Fast forward to 2004. Management and ownership changed. The buildings are usually not clean. The grounds aren't as well maintained as they once were. Some of the buildings (like mine) have mold infestations. If you report a problem, management is very slow to respond. If you complain, management will do things to you to keep you quiet, such as audit your rent records. Another problem that's occurring - many of the long-term residents have moved, and they are having a hard time renting the apartments. The result' They start letting ANYONE in, and the buildings are experiencing higher incidents of vandalism and littering (the pool was closed for 1/2 the summer because of vandals).
Now, they're claiming that they're "making upgrades", but the upgrades consisted of: changing the locks, checking registrations on cars, and changing the lighting in the front lobby, where there are STILL HOLES IN THE CEILING WHERE THE OLD LIGHTS WERE!
My lease is up in 5 months, but I'm leaving in 3 months to a better apartment complex.

That review is inaccurate, all the problems that the person mentioned were happening before the new owners took over. Now when I have an issue they have it fixed immediately. The problem with the pool happened under the old management and it wasn't because of vandals. There was a crack in the bottom of the pool that was letting the water out, which made it structurally unsafe and the old owners didn't have it fixed correctly. The new owners made it a priority to have the pool redone and made safe for the tenants to swim again. The lighting/holes the person was talking about were all fixed within the first month of the new owners taking over. |
