Nice, but...

It was nice to move to a new place with new appliances and hopefully better windows and insulation. We do like the apartment and are basically happy here, although it would be better if the carpet wasn't the cheapest grade possible and the paint used could stand up to cleaning better. If you don't have a private entrance, you also hear a lot of noise when people are going up and down the stairwells - both their voices and their footsteps. Additionally, the head maintenance guy is an arrogant, obnoxious little man with a Napoleon complex, which makes dealing with maintenance issues quite unpleasant. If you can deal with people other than him, it would probably be just fine. As with any place, there are things that do not seem to be very tenant friendly. For example, they finally paved the roads and put the dumpsters up on curbs. The dumpsters don't have side access; so if you're trying to throw away anything heavy or are short or elderly, good luck trying to get your trash in them. Comments were made to the front office about the problem. They noted that certain dumpsters were never full (no kidding if you can't reach them). Instead of solving the problem by replacing the dumpsters with ones that have side doors, their solution was to simply remove the dumpsters so you have to go somewhere further away to get rid of your garbage or drive it to the ones by the main office. Another example is replacing the furnace filters. They post some notice on an outside door assuming that everyone will see it, not taking into account those who may work out of their homes or are ill or infirmed and don't leave their apartment every day. They issue a blanket order that you must secure your pets for the 3 days they plan on doing this, which doesn't take into account those who own animals that will go crazy if they're penned up for days while their owners are at work. It seems to me that a better way to do it would be to break the complex into 3 sections and note the day your section will be worked on so that you are only inconvenienced 1 day and not 3, but apparently that would make too much sense. They also have no outside deposit for rent checks and are creepy enough to say you owe a 5% penalty if it's even a day late when grace periods are the industry norm and should be. All they need to do is install a deposit system where the rent falls into a bin and cannot be accessed by anyone trying to fish them back out. Besides, they're only checks and not cash. These are simple things that would make living here more pleasant for everyone but seem to be beyond their comprehension.
