I loved Newtown Place

Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2007
I feel compelled to write a review because I was so shocked at reading the other reviews. We lived at Newtown Place for 2 years (we only moved out in order to be closer to our work locations) and I regretted leaving because it was (in our opinion) one of the best apartments we could have found, for the money. Our apartment was on the second floor of the two-story building, and received great sunlight at any time of day. By opening the balcony doors on one side of the apartment, and the bedroom windows on the other, we always received a nice cross-breeze. We had a great balcony, with double doors and an outdoor, locking storage closet. The kitchen was very open and had a "window/cutout" that looked into the living room, so even when one of us was cooking, we could still hold a conversation with the other person in the living room. We had individually controlled heat and AC, with our own full-size hot water heater (no problems getting hot showers in the morning!). There was also a full-size washer and dryer in its own room, within the apartment, that was spacious enough to double as a utility/laundry room and pantry. The bedrooms were of a reasonable size, but the real heart of the apartment was the living-area. Again, it was very open and bright.
For the money we paid, Newtown Place was the only complex in the area (or anywhere in the Philadelphia Metro area, we soon found out) that offered the kind of pleasant living space, well-maintained grounds and all-around beautiful environment that we had there. The place was renovated shortly before we moved in, in 2005.
We hardly ever had to call on the maintenance staff, so I can't really comment on that.
There are a lot of mature trees throughout the complex, with tasteful landscaping around the buildings. There is also a nice, asphalt walking/jogging path that runs around the entire complex.
We found the parking to be ample (the lot for our building always had open spaces) and the parking lot was well-lit.
The development is also just a few blocks from the historic main strip in Newtown, where there are lots of cute shops and restaurants to enjoy.
Also of note: there are a lot of families in the development. We found that to be a nice feature, since it conveyed a community-feel to the place. We should note, also, that we hardly ever heard our neighbors, but maybe we were lucky in having considerate neighbors, with no children. So I can't comment on what it would be like to live near people with children.
Oh, and we never had problems with pests.
The one thing that I didn't like when we first moved in was that your mail is not delivered to your door...it is delivered to a secure mail box (you have a key for your individual mail box) that serves your building. Obviously, that's not a significant complaint.
Overall, I think Newtown Place was a great place to live, especially considering the prices that similar communities in the area were charging when we were first apartment-hunting.
