terrorists and murderers and vandals, oh my!

What a beautiful summer at Marshall Wood! A terrorist and a rapist/murderer/voyeur were arrested at Marshall Wood. When I moved in I did not expect to be interviewed by a homicide detective or to see my apartment on the evening news! My front door has been vandalized with gum, food and cigarette butts.
Although some of these issues cannot be directly blamed on management, I believe that they really need to make a statement to residents about these issues. This place does not feel safe but we are locked in with our leases. Taking a denial approach or not analyzing the situation does not help residents feel comfortable at all and makes us think that these problems will resurface.
After the terrible summer, management had the gall to send a notice that they were raising rent (I think it was $9) because Comcast cable rates had gone up. Cable TV is included in rent and is not optional. Our lease rates are supposed to include cable and our rates obviously go up every year and should accomodate increases in included utilities. Unxpected increases in a locked yearly rent price is not good practice.
Maintenance gives little or (more likely) no advance notice before embarking on work in your apartment or in the building - resulting in little notice when water will be turned off or alarms will be tested for days. Of course those repairs that I actually requested remain undone.
My impression is that the positive reviews were written by staff members at Marshall Wood. However, if truthful, that woman who wrote about maintenance helping her with groceries and being attentive was probably unbelievable to 99% of residents.
There are certainly enough apartment complexes in this area so I really really urge others to choose carefully! Ask to see the actual apartment you will be renting. The main building that houses the leasing office is ridiculously nice as compared to the other residential buildings. That is not uncommon apartment complex practice so be careful no matter where you are consideirng to live.
Other issues: limited parking, really really hot dirty halls, high noise level at times to the point that I have slept in my living room instead of my bedroom for more quiet
Good luck!
