Youll never be lonely here, weve got roaches the size of Kansas (though management will never admit it), and more creepy crawley things than you could ever count. Centipedes, worms crawling up the walls in the hallways, ants, carpenter ants, silverfish, slugs...yes inside your apt, earwigs, spiders, etc. You pay all your own utilities, but dont expect this place to be warm in the winter even if you have the thermostat at 80. The insulation (if there is any) is so bad my son couldnt sleep in his own bed for the first two winters of his life. Even with a space heater, footed pjs and a blanket on him, he would get so cold, his lips would be blue inside of an hour, so he had to sleep with me just to stay warm. This landlord has never heard of rock salt, so be prepared to skate to your car in the winter...if youre lucky enough to have had him pry open his wallet to hire some moron to do a half assed plow job. I had a ball dealing with this the winter I was pregnant. If you go out at night, be prepared, my husband has found people up on darkened porches, peering in; another guy was hiding from the cops in the trees around the apt; and my sister came all but face to face with one person breaking into the mansion out front which has been consistently deteriorating for as long as Ive lived here. There?s needles and crack vials amongst the other garbage all over the yard. And if the dumpsters full you are expected to store your garbage in your apartment until the dumpster is emptied. So if someone moves out and its filled with old carpets and junk the same day its emptied, plan on collecting those bags of garbage for about 3 days or so until the next trash day. In the summer the "landscaping" right in front of the` porches constantly catches fire (ask the local fire department how often theyre called out here). Watch walking around the apartment barefoot, the nails that hold the carpets in place come up through the carpet and can (and have more than once) drawn blood-make sure you have your tetanus shot. Dont leave any of your delicates hanging up in your laundry room if you dont want anyone to see them, maintenence does not ask before entering them, and a few tenants have speculated whether they have been in apts without a tenant escort. Fire alarms go off at random 4am, 6am, whenever, and for absolutely no reason. Its to the point now where most of us ignore them when we hear them since we know they cant detect the outside fires in the summer. And dont sign the lease without having a lawyer look at it. You sign for a year, after that the lease rolls over for another FULL YEAR. The only way to break the lease is to give 60 days notice from the anniversary date, or pay exhorbitant fees ranging into the thousands depending on the mood of the landlord at the time. One former neighbor (who had one kid in college and a newborn) bought a house and was charged $2000 PLUS his security deposit, on top of his normal rent just for breaking his lease. He was so fed up he paid it just to "finally get the hell out of this place". Keep looking, youll be glad you did. BTW the reason many of us keep our reviews anonymous is to avoid retribution and to try to keep that shred of a chance that we might get our security deposit back without a lawyer. And did anybody other than me notice that the owner didnt respond to any of the issues that he can take care of' Maybe someday he?ll tell us why the lease is so hard to get out of if he has so many people who want to live here. He didnt even leave HIS email address.
