One Girl's Opinion

So many negative reviews due to the elevator problems...I don't think this building is getting a fair shake. I easily thought this was the best place to live in Philly and moved only because I relocated to the West Coast.
I lived here for three years with my boyfriend in a large one bedroom. Overall, I would highly recommend the building but it depends on the person so here??s my take:
PROS
Safety: Very safe building with 24/7 doormen. Everything is well lit including the lobby. Tenants are primarily professionals and grad students. Never had a problem.
Doormen: Very cool, competent doormen. All packages are handled efficiently. Great if you have a home office.
Convenience: Great location. We looked at a lot of apartments and Locust St is a much more appealing street than JFK or Chestnut. A block from shopping on Walnut. Three blocks from Rittenhouse Square. Starbucks and deli downstairs, 24-hr deli around the corner. Nice Japanese restaurant up the block. Irish pub downstairs. Indian, Korean, Middle-Eastern within walking distance.
Management: I never experienced any of the management problems that others have complained about and found the management team to be courteous and professional. They accommodated any request I made including reserving the hospitality suite last minute when I had guests in town.
Maintenance: I had three problems in three years and they were all taken care of within 24 hours.
Apartment: Great one bedroom. Simple, functional layout. Everything is clean. Never saw a bug the entire time I was here. Walk-in closet the size of my first apartment in NYC. Solid amenities - Washer/Dryer (great convenience although a load takes a long time to dry), Dishwasher
Gym/Pool: Small, but well-equipped for a building gym -- ellipticals, treadmills, bikes, nautilus, free weights, lap pool, whirlpool, sauna and a huge sun deck with amazing views in every direction. And way more quiet than a typical gym ?? I swam laps 3-5 times a week and usually had the entire pool to myself.
Noise: Same as any city.
CONS
Elevators: Yes, the elevators were a problem, but that's why they were upgrading them. I had a similar problem in NYC and once the elevators were upgraded, they were great. They were scheduled to finish in summer 2006 so I assume this issue will be resolved soon if not already.
Fire Alarms: I'm a big fan of safety but the fire alarms are a little sensitive.
Trash Chute: There is a sign on the trash chute that says you shouldn't use it after 8pm which seems a little early.
Summary: If you want a safe, clean high-rise in Philly with a nice gym/pool, it's hard to beat.
