My year here is almost up and I would definitely consider renewing if I was going to stay in the city. I live on the 3rd floor so I don't know how things are in the rest of the building. The couple of times that I've gone to other floors to do laundry, I noticed some of them look kinda dirty and smell a bit. Residents on my floor are mostly young professionals or grad students. Rent is average for this area (read: expensive). Maintenance usually responds within a day. The door people are friendly; I give them a wave or say hello when I see them. The building construction next door was noisy at first but has gotten quieter over time. No serious cons: fire engines across the street come and go at all hours, but you get used to it (can't expect it to be quiet outside when you live in the city anyway); a few dryers in the building don't work so well, so I avoid those ones; $1.50 to wash, $1.50 to dry, quarters only; huge windows are a little drafty and sometimes leaky if the rain is pounding on them (has only happened twice); trash room gets full around the weekends so I try to drop trash off mid-week; sink is a little small for cleaning large pots and pans (probably not an issue for most people); nudie theater across the street. Pros: huge ceilings, huge windows; trader joe's; quiet (maybe i got lucky having quiet neighbors); great location; new-ish bathroom and kitchen; nudie theater across the street.
