After nearly 2 years here, I am very sorry to have to move. This was my first time living in Philadelphia, and I was very pleasantly surprised. Here are my candid thoughts (many positives and very few negatives) on the living experience one will have in this building:
POSITIVES: Staff: top-notch and friendly (especially Angel and Jim!). Will go out of their way to help you when you need it (for example, open doors when you are moving heavy things, get packages, and turn on the taxi light if you need a cab).
Maintenance: If something in my apartment was broken, I could usually count on it to be fixed within the same day. Never have I had such efficient maintenance repairs in any other building I have lived in.
Cleanliness/functionality: Exceptional. Did not encounter a single nasty bug during my time here. Wooden kitchens look a little dated but everything works well and is clean. Water pressure in bathroom is great.
Noise: VERY minimal. Building is occupied mostly by Penn graduate/professional students and young professionals. I didn't hear a peep from my hallmates. Ever.
View: AMAZING! My 1 bedroom looked out on the Schuylkill River, 30th Street Station and the Cira Centre.
And oh yeah...FREE laundry!!!
NEGATIVES: As other posters have said, it gets cold in the winter (due to drafts coming from dated windowpanes), even with the heat (which you must keep on all the time to stay toasty...and electric bills will run fairly high)
Although the building is only a 15-20 minute walk to Penn (not bad), it is in kind of a "dead area" between University City and Center City, and can get a bit eerie at night. (But as is the case with any city, you need to watch your ass most anywhere at night :))
Overall' I'm sorry to leave this building; it served me very well during my time spent as a student at Penn! bYr9ljUwtCbMRXE8dRDC
