dont get cheated on your security deposit

first of all, i want to make it clear that management took of 40 dollars or so from my security deposit each of two years i lived there (i rented two apartments since im a student for 9 months each). i think they know people will not complain since they are mostly exchange students living in the building. so be very careful about that. try to document your move in and move out condition. my apartment was spotless and i still got docked the same amount each year. if i had time, i wish i could protest that. i think they must do the same to all students

to the apartment in general, management is awful. they treat students like imbeciles and are very condescending. the leasing office is no better. the only plus is the people who work the front desk. very nice people who try to help. but watch out for being like 2 days late with rent and getting a nice eviction notice in your mailbox.

as for the apartment itself, it is mostly exchange students and penn/drexel students. it is very convenient if you go to grad school, and i have to say, only live here if you are a graduate student who relishes that convenience. if you are a real professional, stay away. there are a few weird people living in the apartment but they seem mostly harmless. ultimately, i felt very safe in my two years there with all the students around me.

as for the apartment visually, they are not very attractive, and the rent is way too much but mostly you are paying for location to grad school. if you face the back of the building, you will have to deal with a huge annoying fan that goes on every 20 minutes or so in the summer months and is extremely loud. also, garbage trucks are loud and will wake you up at about 2 am. for me it didnt matter cause i was already up. then they changed their schedule and starting coming at 7 am. that sucked. also, if you live in the horseshoe, you will get no ventilation in your room and look out onto an ugly fan and metal roof stained with water. i recommend finding one of the apartments with a nice view not facing the back.

as for mice and roaches, i dont think you should have a problem if you keep your apartment clean, i never saw a roach and only had one mouse the entire time i was there.

maintenance is pretty incompetent. they never fixed my bathroom sink. they kept coming and the same problem would happen. i wrote management and they basically ignored me. also my heat randomly didnt work in the winter months, that was quite horrible.

the walls seem relatively thick, i never heard my neighbors. the building has a nice lobby area (albeit tacky) but you can get packages delivered to the front desk.

final word: only consider this if you are a student at penn or drexel
