In a world where people are quick to complain and slow to praise. I feel i should speak out. At least from my point of view.
Any concerns I have regarding issues with my apartment get dealt with quickly and efficiently.
My dealings with management have been more than satisfactory. I love the improvements that they have been making, sure I wish they would just be done, but its worth it! At least to me!
I have absolutely no complaints, and would just like to recognise all the efforts of all the staff. Good Job, and i feel sorry for you having to put up with all these bashers.

The frustrating thing is that both sides have aspects in which they're correct. Some of the residents around here ARE slobs, some ARE frat-brat-types, some ARE ghetto-mentality...but then many others ARE clean, many others ARE non-asinine college students, many ARE above ghetto-mentality. Meanwhile, as for CHV management, I believe that many of the rank-and-file CHV employees WOULD like CHV to be less of a dump. Many seem like decent people who just need a job too much to quit in disgust. But it seems likely that AIMCO regional management and/or the REIT investors themselves have spent YEARS cutting them off at the knees, making them write home for written permission in triplicate to buy a simple box of light bulbs, let alone a ladder or a new faucet.

The dumpster area filth is perhaps the weakest example of bad management. The trash trucks seem to come frequently, like several times per week (never staked them out to confirm this, but have seen/heard them plenty frequently). The real problem in the dumpster areas is the SLOB fraction of the resident population. It seems like for every 3 clean people who put their trash bag inside the dumpster, there is 1 slob who throws it on the ground, even when the dumpster is not yet full and has plenty of room. The squirrels then rip the bags open, and voila, trash EVERYWHERE within a 10-20-ft radius. I've seen many people who evidently consider themselves NBA-quality shots being too lazy to walk up and get it inside the dumpster, so instead they chuck it from 8 feet away and when it totally misses and splits upon the pavement, they walk away complacently. How can management, or anyone else, help the people who are THAT lazy and filthy? Nothing short of literally taking out their trash FOR them---that's feasible, right?

However, so many important points that people are making here are absolutely inexcusable, and are strong, unequivocal examples of bad management. Things such as these: heat that doesn't work again and again and again and again; dark stairwells where 7 out of 8 lightbulbs are dead; exterior doors with vandalized locks that never get fixed for a year on end, even when duly reported; very simple bent-gutter or clogged-downspout problems that management and maintenance allow to fester for years into larger water-in-the-walls-growing-mold-forests kinds of problems; etc. These things are the product of bad management that is WAY beyond merely falling behind a little or dropping a ball here or there. Stuff like this makes people give up on trying to care. Here's a tip: CHV will never fix anything based on phone calls. You have to bother to do it in writing with photos and force them to fear a lawsuit before they'll stop ignoring voicemails. As for return phone calls to acknowledge a problem, that simply never happens.

So in summary, yes, you are correct in that some idiot residents are lazy, filthy slobs who complain too much, but at the same time, this place has not been managed correctly for many years, and many legitimate complaints are ignored repeatedly.
