I visited Chestnut Hill Village as a potential renter and was so appalled by my experience, that I had to write something here. I saw an ad on craigslist.com for a $979 newly renovated, pet-friendly apartment. I called and spoke to someone, and he confirmed that they still had several apartments available at that price. He told me about the layout and even assured me that there would be a patio. It sounded great, so I made an appt. to see the apartment.

The leasing office is very nice, with free coffee, tea, and bottled water. There are nice leather couches and it is clear they are presenting this idea of luxury.

The rental woman asks me and my husband what has brought us here. I relay my convsersation with the guy on the phone, the craigslist ad, and so on. "Well," she tells me, "the man you spoke to on the phone works in our call center in Colorado, so he has some of his information wrong."

What was the real story, then' Well, dogs are not allowed in the "Village," only in the "Manor." These apartments, of which none are available, rent for around $1200 and don't have patios. If you get one that is not renovated yet (this would be the only type for around $979), then you must agree to vacate your apartment within 60 days if they decide they want to renovate your place. But, she tells me, there aren't even any of those available. THEN, she has the GALL to ask me "So, do you want to put down a deposit'" My jaw almost hit the floor! Are you KIDDING me'' After pulling that bait and switch on me' PLEASE. I wouldn't trust these people for anything.

My husband and I left, found a nice apartment in nearby West Mt. Airy with a leasing agent who treated us with respect and showed us an apartment that was exactly what they had advertised. I should mention that we both have stellar credit scores (both above 775).

If you see apartments advertised from Chestnut Hill Village, be skeptical. Very skeptical.

Sorry to get back to you so slowly - I hadn't checked this in a while. We moved to Sedgwick Gardens. It's a really nice place.
