DON'T LIVE HERE

The Drake is an awful place to live. Don't let the "Best in apartment living" sign fool you. I have been awoken in the middle of the night by the building's fire alarm countless times in the past 18 months of living at the Drake. One time, a water main burst in the dead of January and I trudged down 11 flights of stairs on the fire escape in 30 degree weather; three floors had ankle high water rushing down them so I was soaked as well. Another time my air conditioner leaked onto the carpet for a full week without being fixed, though I reminded the staff daily that it needed to be tended to. The maintanence staff, with the exception of one guy, is rude and irritable. The rental officers are not helpful and the main landlord is terribly rude. I pay 800 dollars a month for a dorm room-sized studio apartment. The water lines are always being fixed, and it is not uncommon to have no water for three days from the hours of 9-3 while they try to fix it.
In fact, the only redeeming quality of the Drake is the neighborhood and the friendly front desk staff. Otherwise, don't waste your money. I know that when I move in a month and a half, I won't miss it at all.
