I live here for one reason, and one reason only - I can't afford to move!
This is the only place I know of that the rent goes up as fast as the quality of living goes down.
The worst thing about the Duffield House, hands down, is the incompetent, nasty, deceitful, -------s known as the maintenance staff. Whenever I have to deal with any of these warm, caring, gentle souls, I am uncomfortable and anxious. Their annihilating contempt makes you feel as though they're doing you a favor - by just showing up! When they do show up and fix something wrong (more often than not), they blame YOU to protect their own ass.
If you dare to ask them a question like..um..say; "when will the elevator be working again'" They will probably tell you (in a condescending tone) to "mind your own business"! I am not exaggerating either. They are professionally incompetent and bankrupt of any social skills. If they were doctors, I wouldn't trust any of them with a hangnail.
I wouldn't recommend this place to ANYONE who has a shred of self-respect. The Duffield House is a prime example of what one should aspire to move AWAY from. It's dirty, falling apart, uncared for and unsafe in my opinion. Given the trend over the last several years, I am also of the opinion that, quality of life at the Duffield House will continue to erode. If forced to make the choice, I would rather have root-canal without Novocain than live here.
I am not a disgruntled x-tenant with an axe to grind. I am a person who STILL LIVES HERE (for the better part of 15 years) and have witnessed firsthand, the continuing decay of what was once a decent place to live for a reasonable price.
What a shame!!!

wow, your review was on the money. i only lived at duffield house one year--long enough to be burned out in a fire (started by faulty wiring but mgmt incorrectly blamed my neighbor) and relocated to another filthy hellhole apt. in the building. i feel so very sorry for all the elderly people there who have no other recourse. the ironic thing is, my original apt. (before the fire) i adored--it was large, spacious, great balcony with view. but once you had to place a maintenance call or deal with management--forget it. and once you looked closely you could see how the whole building was just falling into disrepair. it must have been an amazing place in its heyday--too bad they never kept it up.
