The most aggravating 6 months of my life.

I don't know where to begin. I'll start with the first night I moved in. As I cleaned and starting unpacking my boxes, I noticed hordes of small cockroaches under the kitchen sink and crawling in around and behind the refrigerator and oven. I made a note to complain the next morning. Then I took a shower and was disappointed to realize that the water pressure was pitifully weak and that the temperature fluctuated out of my comfort zone dozens of times during my 20 minute shower. Over the months, I've learned to predict when these fluctuations happen from realizing that the temperature hops around after I hear toilet flushing in nearby apartments. Then in bed, I was woken many times by the overbearing sounds from 21st and Walnut Streets. My apartment has a mouse problem and I have found them scurrying around my studio on occasion. I have never felt my space violated so frustratingly in my life ever before. The furnace heat is out-of-control-hot during the winter months. Maintenance is slow and typically the workers do half-assed jobs. The doormen/women are rude, fair-weather friends make many of the tenants feel uncomfortable. My old, disgusting apartment lacks a garbage disposal, dishwasher, and trash is left out in a hallway closet for daily collection as opposed to a trash chute. No wonder the building is infested with pests. The rent is exorbitantly high for the substandard quality of the building. My health declined the first few months I lived here. The one benefit of living in the Embassy is that you will become a stronger, more rugged person after your stay here. Everything now seems luxurious to me and I am very grateful to leave.
