Another S*#t Hole from Philadelphia MISmanagement!
From: -Anonymous-Date posted: 9/4/2002
Years at this apartment: 1993 - 1994
I lived here for one year approximately 8 years ago. I initially moved there because the rent was reasonable (at the time) and the apartment itself looked charming w/ hardwood floors, high ceilings, french doors. Looks can be deceiving...
Upon moving in, the first problem (and most persistent which ultimately drove me to find another place to live) was roaches. The Embassy had no garbage disposals in any of its units and did not have an adequate trash removal system (there was no chute - you put your trash bags, containing food scraps, in a "closet" on each floor and maintenance was supposed to come regularly to empty the trash-yeah, right!).
Next was the heating system (controlled by the Landlord). While most tenants complain of broken heaters that emit no heat whatsoever, mine was the exact opposite. It was January and outside the wind chill was 10 below zero - inside I had to walk around the house wearing shorts and a tank top with all of the windows wide open 24 hours a day because it was so flippin' hot! Three weeks later, after daily calls to Philadelphia MISmanagement, it was finally repaired.
Other Issues: The elevators were unbelieveably slow. They had frequent fire alarms and several real fires (always in the middle of the night) where you actually had to grope your way down the dark firetower (broken lightbulbs, trash on steps, etc.). The "security" at the front desk never questioned anyone who came into the building. The community laundry room was all the way in the basement and after having had some of my clothes STOLEN from the machines, not once, but TWICE - I had no alternative but to sit in the laundry room the entire time my clothes were in the machines.
Unless you could afford a garage, parking anywhere in the vicinity of the building was next to impossible - especially around weekends.
Apparently things haven't changed since I left - about a year ago I met someone who had moved into The Embassy and they complained of the same problems - only they said now in addition to roaches, they had mice.
