An honest critique...

I'd like to give my account of both the negative and positive aspects of living here. While there are some problems, I would highly recommend living here.

Positives

The biggest positive is that the staff members are very courteous, helpful and wonderful people. They all knew our names the first day we moved in. The front desk people are the greatest and the leasing agents are always friendly and helpful. And they are top notch with security. They know if you don't live here and watch out if you try to sneak past them. If you try to get in the elevator without signing in, they're right on top of you. It definitely makes you feel safer living here. In my previous renting experience having horrible staffing is the worst! And makes living somewhere miserable. The great staff is a definite big plus in living here!!

The apartment is great. We moved in from out of state, sight unseen and were very pleased. There's lots of room and storage. We have a coat closet, a linen closet, a storage closet and a clothes closet in one bedroom and in the other, 2 more clothes closets. You also have your own W/D and the shower in the 2 BDRM is wonderfully huge! You also get this huge balcony which we love to sit out on on nice nights.

The views from the higher floors are wonderful. We look out on the Main Line and it's beautiful to watch the trees blossom in the spring. It makes for a wonderful vista. And the view from our friends on the city side is georgous. I think we might have chosen that side if we had known. There's just something about looking on a city at night from such a high view.

We've never had any problems with noise from our neighbors and they have 3 kids under 3 years old! You can hear a toilet flush, but barely, and I've never heard voices, except when both of our windows are open in nice weather.

Though I was a little skeptical about living in a high rise, I was very happy with it. It's been a pleasant experience. They even have grocery carts and storage carts to help you get your things up to your apartment from your car. Never having been in a high rise before, I thought it was a wonderful idea.

The gym is decent and not really busy. They installed headphone systems for the tv's which has been great.

We've never had any bug problems which was nice. Another bonus of living in a clean high rise.

Waiting for an elevator was a pain for awhile while they upgraded them but now they're actually faster and all digital.

My boyfriend's a student and the study room was another excellent benefit. He made good use of it. It was a nice place to go to study when he needed some quiet. And nice for me...I didn't have to tiptoe around!

Having your own indoor parking spot was also a big plus. Assigned spot and no shoveling snow!! But on a personal note, we did have a problem with the car next to us, a big old clunker with huge doors. Everytime they opened their door they put a small dent in the side of our new truck. Eventually we complained and the leasing office moved us immediately to another spot that day! We were grateful for the quick response.

But while the experience was good overall, there are a couple of things to be aware of:

In January, we were away on vacation for 2 weeks. Everything was off except for the fridge (heat included) and our electric bill was over $200. I question it myself because we were home for all of December, with Christmas lights running half the month and the bill was $180. So be aware of that.

Also, while the appliances work ok, they are all old. I think some apts have new but we didn't. I takes 2 hours to dry 3 pairs of jeans in the clothes dryer. They are definitely not energy efficient. But you do have your own W/D in the apt which was a big selling point for me.

The building doesn't have digital cable. You can't get cable internet access. You have to get DSL through Verizon, which is much slower but acceptable. We also opted for DirecTV too. The building has a satelite dish on the roof. The only problem is is that Comcast owns the dish so all tech issues have to go through them and you have to pay them $11.70 per month for the privilage of using their dish, on top of the DirecTV prices. It also means you can't take advantage of any of the DirecTV specials out there AND Comcast charges $75 for intallation if they're not running a special. On top of it all, Comcast has only one person who works with Apt Bldg DirecTV installations. We happened to move in when she was on vacation and it took almost 4 weeks to get service installed. That whole thing was a bit fustrating.

One big problem we experienced was because we had more than one car and just couldn't pay the $75 a month fee for an additional space. Parking outside the building is horrible if you get home anytime after 5 pm on a weekday. The building has a St. Joseph's dorm on one side and the train station on the other. You usually end up parking far away, which isn't a big deal in warm weather but a pain in the cold and snow. Plus the college students are not to respectful when it comes to other cars and dents, scraps and being blocked in are common.

I also have to complain about the noise from the dorm students on Friday and Saturday night. We're on that side of the building and on nice nights you can't leave your window open for all the commotion at 2am. One night at 4am, I actually had to call the cops to complain, the noise was so constant and loud. But if you're willing to sleep with the windows closed, you can't hear a peep. So this complaint is pretty relative :) and minor.

So that is about it. All of our experiences from living here at Executive, both positive and negative. But, in my opinion, the negatives, which exist everywhere, hugely outweigh all of the positives we experienced living here. I would highly recommend Executive House to anyone looking to move to the area. I can't see how you could find better!!
