The yin and the yang

I have lived in Joshua House Apartments for a little over six months. The price, $800 for a two bedroom apartment, is outstanding. The rooms are very very spacious. I have a full sized dresser, full bed, ottoman chair and small vanity in my bedroom, and I still have space to do my workout tape in the morning :) In my living room I have a coach, love seat, entertainment center and coffee table, with plenty of walk around room left over. I postioned my furniture such that I've created a small "foyer" adjacent to the front door where I've placed a small table and my coat rack. The kitchen has good counter space and an okay amount of cabinet space. They supply all the appliances including a dishwasher.
The buliding construction is a bit off and there are a lot of uneven spots throughout the floor of my apartment, however it has never been a big issue to me. The toilets aren't that powerful and you may run into problems occassionally (enough about that). The building pays for hot water and sometimes it is tempermental. More times than not however, I have no problem taking a weekend 45 minute shower with continuous hot water.
The maintainence is okay. They come promptly to fix the problems that will cost them a significant amount of money down the line, but move a bit slower on issues that are just a matter of comfort and convience.
Parking is never a problem and no extra charge, as there are lots throughout the entire complex.
There is a work out room, but it seems the safety key to the treadmills is always lost. Inside there are two treadmills, a stationary bike, two steppers, an elliptical, two weight machines and some free weights with a couple of benches.
The laundry facilities consist of two washers and dryers per building, which I find insufficent, so I go to a local laundromat 2 blocks away.
The community as a whole seems pretty quiet for the most part, but I managed to land across the hall from someone with three screaming children. The complex is diverse, with multiple races and cultures represented, however people aren't overly friendly. The complex is not kid friendly. There isn't a play area or a park and a lot of times kids are outside playing in the parking lots in front of the buildings. Shopping is not a problem and everything you need is at most a 15 minute drive or a five minute walk away.
In summary, space for price is fabulous. Safe, diverse and convenient. Neighbors leave a little to be desired, and may be treading downward, but I haven't been here long enough to be sure. Overall recommended.
