Yea - it's so worth it ...

Ok, there are a lot of people who whined a lot on these boards - I disagree with them. Management does have rules, and they do stick to them, but that's to keep everything orderly. I will admit, sometimes the rules are a pain in the ass (e.g. must book the freight elevators well in advance, and can only move in Mon-Fri), so maybe if your a rebellious free spirit, you'll hate it here.
The management is FAR from uncaring - I've been working with the guy named David in the office - he's VERY responsive, and always kind, no matter how ridiculous the request. Maintenance fixes our problems within 48 hours (next day sometime, depending on severity - I've had same day for clogged toilet). The doormen are far from useless - ever talk to Curtis' He's awesome. And Eddie actually helped my roommate with his dresser when he was moving in (and refused a tip)! They sign for your packages, refrigerate your groceries if you order them, and are very knowledgeable. Now if you expect them to park your car for you, then yes, you will be disappointed. Their function is to ensure that random people aren't just walking into the building, and they do a good job of it (that happens when you know a lot of the building's tenants by name). And, if they don't know you, have you even tried, or did you dismiss them b/c you thought they were doormen'
So yes, there are rules. Yes, the apartments are grey-carpeted and white-walled, but for being this close to Penn, with this much space and security, AND having the ability to wow your classmates again and again with how nice it is ... it's all worth it. Someone said it was "sterile" and looked like "a hotel" - yes, that's because you will always see people cleaning the walls, steaming the carpets, etc. In all of the hallways here, not a single bulb is out - not one! I don't know - maybe people who are complaining have lived a far more priveleged life than me, but I firmly believe that you cannot be the grandiosity, the security, the parking option, the proximity, or the friendliness of the staff. My one big complaint is that I cannot stay b/c the 1BR and studios are out of my pricerange - but the 2BR b/t two people was wonderful. Our rent below included 2 parking spots, and 2 gym memberships, and, of course, free access to the dvd library. Our apartment was occasionally noisy, but that's b/c we're above Ecco Qui - my friends in other apartments rarely complain of noise. Oh, and as for utilities, I don't know what that one guy was spending hundreds of dollars for, but for a 2BR apartment, the HIGHEST our utilities got was $98 (we learned to open/close the blinds depending on whether or not we wanted the sun to come in and heat the apartment, we also turned off the heat/air during the day when we weren't there - it was still comfortable). mgFDbN4-dhkSMZ7zRmVH
