Nice staff - evil owners

My read is that this property is a cash cow for the Dranoff folks. The business model is to rent apartments to Penn grad students who have parents with tons of money to support them (this place is NOT cheap). Because there is a steady turnaround of willing renters, they put NOTHING into keeping the building up. This is corroborated by all of the staff who work here. I am older and have a different perspective than most of the residents, so I get along very well with the staff. They put up with a ton of bratty residents here. The problem with staff is the cheap Dranoffs - they dont hire enough of them to do the work they need to do and the residents can be incredibly narcissistic brats. I have to bribe these guys to come and fix things they should have fixed for free - and they like me. Make sure you leave a generous Christmas tip. They say it is only grad students or above - it is a total lie. It borders on living in a college dorm. Lots of yelling late at night from drunks, keeping you from leaving your window open. Back to the poor upkeep and sham appearance - if you come, notice that the laundry machine is too small to do an even moderate sized load, and notice that there is no drafting of the exhaust air from the dryer! It just blows into your apartment. As a result, everyone uses the machines on the 6th floor, and you are back to waiting in the laundry room. Turn on the garbage disposal - they do not work properly due to poor design. The walls are so thin, I hear the pillow talk of my neighbors and hear their humping in surround sound. Another example of this place's deceit is the roofdeck. The picture is laughable. With very little money, they could make it very nice, but they dont - they just do enough to get a good picture for the website, and leave it crappy. Their lease terms are incredibly restrictive, again because they are dealing with customers they do not have to leave happy - rotating grad students. In short, if you are going to Penn and are a child of wealthy parents and money is no option, this is a great place for you. If not, look anywhere else. For the price of this place, you can live ANYWHERE you want in this city, and the main subway line will dump you very close to campus (closer than a walk from the Left Blank). What is the hardest part of living here is knowing how actively deceptive they are in presenting this as "luxury living" when it is a sweetheart deal between Penn (they lease him the building) and Dranoff where customer service is at the very bottom of their list.
