Horrible place, but a cheap one
From: moviesanyDate posted: 1/19/2006
Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2006
This is very cheap place to live, but there are few things to consider before you move in.
1.The apartments are infested with mice and bugs. Your cat will have a lot of fun in this place if you have one.
2.Phone lines are messed up somewhere inside building, my phone does not work and Verizon does not know why. Maintenance is not responsible for phone lines, so if you want to have a phone here, you out of luck.
3.Washer and dryer machines in the basement are in terrible shape, they are so filthy that I don’t think they where ever cleaned.
4.No parking whatsoever! You will have to park on streets, my car get one new dent every week from drivers that hit other cars when they try to park their SUVs in spot that is only big enough for Honda civic.
5.Frequent reports of rapes, assaults and robberies in neighborhood, are very real. My car was broke in twice, both times I have to replace CD and window.
6.These apartments are robbed on permanent basis; management issued multiple warning to keep door closed and all valuables insured. If you plan to sit in apartment 24/7 this probably won’t affect you, but if you have to leave you apartment to work/study make sure a have good rental insurance.
7.These apartments do not have air conditioner installed; you will have to buy one if you plan to survive the summer.
8.You can hear your neighbors very well, mine usually sleep during the day and play loud music and dance during the night.
9.Maintenance can enter your apartment at any time without the warning, and without any apparent reason.
10.Elevator is very old, it was probably designed somewhere in 20s (1920). It was not cleaned since then. Sometimes this elevator works like a trap, so keep you cell phone charged and maintenance number on speed dial.
11.Heat is included in the rent, i love that, but there is not way to adjust the temperature in individual apartment. Thermostat that controls temperature is located somewhere in boiler room, so you can have 60 F in your apartment with absolutely no heat coming from radiator.
Although the rent for studio $550 electric. (in 2006), taking into account all of the above this is maximum amount they can charge for this kind of apartment. Are you absolutely sure you can’t find better apartment in the neighborhood'
