a little expensive but otherwise great place to live

Years at this apartment: 2003 - 2004
Initially I thought that this was just a decent place to live. After reading the numerous negative comments of other Philadelphia apartment buildings, I realized how great this place really is.
Pros: I have never had any mice or cockroaches or any pest problems in my apartment and I would move out immediately if I ever did. When I moved into my apartment, it was very clean and they repainted all the walls. The apartments are loft style so it's great to have so much space even though I'm in a studio (The windows themselves are like 10 feet high and cover the entire wall). The lobby, hallways, and common areas in general seem clean and modern, nothing is dingy. All the appliances are modern and the washer/dryer in the apartment is a real convenience. The management is great and whenever anything needs to be fixed (which is not often) it is done very quickly and professionally. Everyone is nice here too and they make a lot of effort to accomodate the residents in various situations. The Schuylkill park is right next door, as well as route 76, and I notice that a lot of families with small children seem to live comfortably here. U.Penn. and Drexel are close--within 20 min. walking distance but if you're a student I would suggest using a car or a bike to get around and if you don't have those, then just live in University City instead. In and around the building I feel very safe even late at night.
Cons: These are minor but worth sharing. The outdoor parking for one car is $190 and $250 for indoor. The walls are real thin so if your neighbor is watching tv or talking loudly on the phone, you can basically hear everything. The apartments (my studio anyways) come with a bland thin tan carpet in the living area whereas I would prefer hardwood floors or at least a better looking carpet. 25th and Locust is more of a residential area and doesn't have shops or groceries just around the corner (there are small grocery and deli stores about 5-10 minute walk away) so during winter if you don't have a car you might wish you had one. Though I feel safe in and around the building, I think in general residential streets in Philly aren't well lit at night and walking around the neighborhood after 8 or 9pm isn't something I would do unless I had to. And finally the apartments are rather expensive and only water is an included utility. But if you don't mind spending $1150 rent $190 parking $35 cable ($50-$100) for utilities a month for a 450 sq.ft studio in Center City, then this is a great place to live. Compared to the reviews of other Center City apartments available for the same or less money, it is superior.
