Years at this apartment: 2003 - 2004
I had lived here prior from 1997-1998, and had a wonderful experience. I relocated to Florida for 6 years and upon my return to the area moved back expecting the same. It has suffered a major decline, unable to compete with the numerous new buildings that have opened. It has become a dorm for the local University's . The same carpeting from 6 years ago remains in the lobby and hallways with warn areas and stains. In reality this carpeting is probably the same that was installed when the building was renovated in the 80's. The building has 1 porter and he is responsible for 24 floors, the lobby, loading dock, exterior, roof top deck and the basement. So if you expect the sweeper run in the hallway more than once quarterly, forget it.The elevators are a disgrace with maked walls and ceilings. As the elevators are small and with a large student population who have bikes, expect to be hit with a bicycle tire or 2 while in the elevators. The apartment windows are falling a part, and cause your utility bills to go through the roof. A resident on my floor was taking its dog into the fire escape to urniate and deficate. I have had sound problems with the apartments next to, above and from below mine. The day front desk person has been there for years and has major attitude. He treats you as if your were an unwelcome guest visting his home, rather than a paying resident. The overnight desk people are either asleep while on duty, or you find them seated in the lobby locking lips with a girlfriend. The property manager has been there for years as well, and should retire. She no longer has any interest in the building. She does not even look up at the exterior of the building to see multiple satellite dishes, or flags hanging from windows, like sheets out to dry. These are basic lease violations, and are a disgrace at a Historic building. Unless your idea of an apartment is a flop house, look elsewhere !
