Pretty good

I rented at the Metropolitan from February 2007 until I switched jobs and had to move out in July 2007. I am very impressed with the staff. Diane, the property manager, is the main reason that I chose to rent at the Metropolitan. I found her to be flexible, reasonable and a pleasure to deal with during my time there. The rest of the staff was similarly helpful and easy to get along with. Indeed, most of the people who work at the Metropolitan will go out of their way to help a resident. The one exception to this is the weekend staff. These people are neither rude nor mean, but they are substantially less engaged in the property and with the residents. As a result, they are substantially less helpful.

Noise was generally not a problem for me. You can hear the neighbors through the walls on occasion, but the building is not populated with the type of people that throw loud parties until three in the morning. As a result, the noise is nothing more than a minor issue.

Parking and loading/unloading are major problems, however. The building has no parking. As a result, one is forced to depend on the public parking garages around Center City for parking. This is difficult to do. My parking spot turned out to be about three blocks from the building. There are garages closer to the building, but one may or may not be able to find parking in those garages.

The other issue that is worth pointing out is maintenance. The Metropolitan has a very fine maintenance man, but he splits his time between two communities. As a result, maintenance can be slightly delayed and it is done in great haste. The result is a project done correctly, but without a great deal of care. I suspect this is an issue with higher management, not with the property itself.

In all, I recommend the Metropolitan to anyone whose needs are simple. This is not a five star luxury property. But it is a good, solid apartment building.
