I'd rather not give specifics on when I moved in or what kind of unit. Suffice to say it was recently and it's a unit on a high floor, not a cheap one.
The good news is it's a cheap alternative to center city living if you have a car
The bad news is, don't think you're getting anything but "cheap" when it comes to the basics. I've been underwhelmed in light of the prices. Should be cheaper. Definately not "luxury".
Sure the hot water is fine, the elevators run decently albeit slowly but my major problem is with the construction of the apartments themselves.
They're old, with cheap materials in the bathroom and the windows are loud with the freeway right next door.
Smells from other peoples aparments waft through the central ventilation shafts connecting everyone's cooking exchaust fans.
Not a big deal.
Except that I often awake, walk into my apartments common area and it REAKS of cigarette smoke. It smells like a casino.
No I do not smoke, nor does my roomate.
Yes I, like any nonsmoker, hate having to breathe in the smell of cigarettes.
Ironically, with the thick concrete walls, you'll never hear your neighbors but you WILL smell them.
I'm definately not renewing. There are better deals elsewhere. With so much new construction in Philly, it was a stupid idea for me to choose such an old apartment.
But the parking is reasonable and the area is nice with the whole foods and PSC right down the street. It's quiet around here from foot traffic but the freeway really gets going around 3-5AM if you happen to be burning the midnight oil and *think* you're going to just crash out (invest in earplugs).
The convenience store is also a good part of this deal.
Having a car or not wanting to drive through downtown traffic everyday are the only reasons to consider living here, IMO.
but in my case, I'm going to brave the parking cost and traffic to move into a nicer building when my lease expires
hope this helps fellow renters.
