Prepare to be on intimate terms with your neighbors

While the other tenants weren't particularly noisey (and were cooperative about turning TVs and stereos down when that was an issue), the walls are so thin that noise is a major issue. There is no sense of auditory privacy. Laughter, sneezing, conversations all make their way through the walls at one point or another. I was once awoken by the sound of a neighbor having an orgasm--despite the fact that I was sleeping with earplugs in my ears! (On the other hand, this might be an ideal place for voyeurs or exhibitionists.) I can't emphasize enough what a nightmare the aural permeability of the walls is.
The electric bill was extremely high, thanks primarily to those high ceilings (and huge windows).
While the building is not far from center city proper, it feels isolated. I didn't feel unsafe, however, thanks to the fact that there were usually hospital or Inquirer employees coming and going in the area.
I am not going to name names, but although some of the front desk people were quite pleasant to deal with, others left me feeling that I was imposing on them even when I came to them with routine matters. One in particular seemed more preoccupied with singing along to gospel songs or talking on the phone about building church leaders than with staffing the front desk.
Maintenance problems that could be handled quickly were done adequately, but more challenging problems were sometimes ignored.
All in all, you can find something better.
