I will tell you the good and bad, you decide!

Years at this apartment: 2008 - 2009

I have been living here for six months now, and even though it is far from perfect here, it is the best place I have lived in philly so far. My previous apartments were in University City and the medical school area. I have lived in Philly for four years.
The good:
The Apartment Unit:
My unit has no roaches, no mice, there is very little noise coming from neighboring apartments.
When I moved in I had freshly painted walls, what appeared to be new carpet, and working appliances.
My view is great and when I submitted an online request to get a clogged sink repaired the guy came in an hour and fixed it in a minute.
The bad:
When they inspected my apartment before I moved in they missed some filthy corners and drawers, one heater has no knob and has to be controlled with pliers, all the fixtures in the bathroom leak, good luck finding the right sized bulbs to replace ones that die out.
After my frist week here, all my brand new Macys Chinaware crashed out of my cubboard and onto the floor breaking; when I inspected why it fell out of the cabinets, it was because they propped up my shelves with a little plastic pin, instead of replacing a lost bracket. When I complained and asked them to pay for it, no response. I might end up claiming it on my renters insurance, but really it is their fault for sticking some random little piece of plastic to fix a real problem.
A neighbor stuck gum on my door, which as I am just around the corner from turning 30, I can hardly believe, and feel like I live in a dorm sometimes with the attitude here.
The Management:
The Good:
They have installed security cameras everywhere, have security at every building, at all times. They have just finished creating a new gym and lounge area. They have events, and workout programs, and prizes. They seem to be trying to do a good job, although their efforts seem directed in a complete opposite direction from what residents actually want them to do. They keep the luandry machines functioning, and common areas clean, have wireless areas, and have a bus that can take you around the city which is very useful!
The Bad:
They tried to remove security from all buildings because "we have a state of the art camera system", and only put them back when residents had a near revolt. There are not enough freebie parking spots, and to park in the garage is extremely expensive, and requires a lease length commitment. They have some sort of a "concierge" program, where people sit at the desks in the hallway and are supposed to help the residents feel more comfortable. But nowhere does park towne ever explain what these people do, or what their job really is, and no one here knows what they do! They might have something to do with making resturant reservations, but who really needs help with that, especially when most of the people here are in the age range of 20-35' I personally would feel more comfortable doing that myself rather then ask some stranger to help me. And we are paying these people! All I have ever seen them do is keep the security guards company. I have seen rats running around outside near the dumpsters, and mice running around in the basements.
However, all in all this is the best place I have lived in so far. I feel safe, have a wonderful view, I am not afraid of my neighbors robbing me, although with putting gum on doors I know they lack maturity... I have a very nice security guard who signs for my packages, and a very nice repair man that will come fix things quickly if he has time and my problem takes a minute to fix. The neighborhood is safe and most of the people here look friendly and approachable. Will I renew my lease next year' Probably. No place is perfect, and yes this place does have issues, but even if you owned your own house you would still have these problems: Noisy neighbors, and bugs, and leaks... You just have to decide if what this place can give you is worth the trouble of a not-so-perfect mangement. As the repair man told me, this building is getting old, and there is not much they can do about the piping and other things like that.
