Honest Opinion...even though I rate this as "yes"...you decide for yourself...

Okay, I have been living at Park Towne Place about 6 years now and will be moving out this summer so I thought this would be a good time to give those of you thinking about moving here an honest opinion of it before you move in.
Positives
1. CONVENIENCE!!! If you live and work downtown then this place does not get any better because there is a shuttle (free for now!) that takes you out and about into the downtown areas. Although on warm days most people just walk to their downtown destinations..but again convenience...you are in the middle of everything.
2. They have built a new state of the art gym which includes all types of fitness equipment, treadmill, elliptical machines, bikes etc.
3. There is a new management office and the people appear to know what they're doing...although I'll admit I don't have much interaction with them...I just pay my rent and go to work...
4. Because Park Towne is on the parkway, you get to see the parades and festivals from your apartment or you can walk out on the parkway and enjoy the festivities.
Negatives - (where do I begin')..lol
1. SAFETY!!! For the most part, there has never really been anything serious to have happened in the 6 years I have been here. However, a few days ago we received a letter in the North building telling tenants to lock their doors and be viligant of their surroundings. Ofcourse, I'm scared because we never get letters like this. Then I found out from neighbors that someone got attacked on the premises...and it looked like the Texas Chainsaw Massacre!!!...blood was everywhere on the steps...and that's not the worst of it...the worst is that they aren't telling us what specifically happened..just to lock our doors...well..that's easy if all the doors worked properly!!! (see next point)
2. The doors here never work...the garage door is always broke...why is this a problem'...because the door is always open for anyone to come in and access the building whenever they feel like it yet the management office is telling us tenants to lock our doors!!!!...if someone really wanted to attack us...they could!!!!
3. RATS AND ROACHES!!!! For the past several years..I've been here there have been rats and roaches running all over the building...although it was worse a few years ago...but when you get them..you get them...this past summer..I saw flying cockroaches...yes FLYING COCKROACHES!!!...once in awhile you'll get a mouse..EWWWHHH!!...I wish I was joking but I'm really not...I have to buy roach spray and I'm still scared of these bugs....
4. The maintenance at Park Towne Place sucks (trust me!)...although I had someone new come in the other day who I think is pretty good....but in the past I've asked them to fix my bathroom sink and they never get it right...this past year I've let it go and do not call them anymore...but unfortunately I had a recent incident when the neighbor above me had a flood in the bathroom so I had to call maintenance...that's the only reason I ever call anymore...I'm not sure what the problem is and they won't replace the pipes...at this point I don't care...
5. Security guards...okay well...some of the security guards are okay...although some have been known to take naps on the midnight shift...but most are pretty friendly...and they help out when they can..I think the previous poster mentioned though that they may be temporary and may get replaced by cameras...I have not heard much of this except in their monthly newsletter..
6. Newsletter....helpful'...kinda'...this could be either a positive or negative thing...the newsletter lists different activities that you can participate in such as winetasting...or fitness related activities...I personally don't think they communicate everything they should in those newsletters ...I would like to know about the possibility of rent increases...crime in our community...etc...they won't report that because people will panic and want to move out...this is a business...
Listen, you have to decide for yourself about this place...if convenience is what you're after...this place is for you...but if any of things I just mentioned bother you...you may want to think twice about moving here...

I live in the North building and my roommates and I were also wondering about the note they sent out regarding the 'incident'. Was someone really attacked right on the premises? I love how we get no follow-up to that mysterious letter, just them telling us to lock our doors.

YES....someone did get attacked...I personally saw the blood on the steps early in the morning..then when I came back from work...I saw police tape around that same area..I asked the security guards what happened...but apparently the "no snitching" law is in effect...and your right...no followup...yes crime happens everywhere...but at least someone tells you what happened..they don't leave you wondering and simply tell you to lock your doors...

What happened is that a girl got raped and beaten up hard -that is what happened! I know that thanks to a nice doorman in the west building who actually cares and informs the residence! Why am I not surprised that the office is hiding that information from us on purpose? Because that is how things work in Park Towne Place - always!
