utilities here will kill you

Years at this apartment: 2004 - 2005
we've been here for about 6 months and things have been ok for the most part. the aparments are spacious, but with minimal closet space. the location is great - convenient to both subway lines and shopping and restaurants.
we've had a number of maintenance problems that management said they "fixed" but would happen over and over and over again. management here claims to be helpful and care about their tenants, but i highly doubt that's the case. i think this place is going condo since they've come into our apartments many times over the last few months to measure for this and measure for that. no privacy here at all..
if you do decide to live here - be prepared to pay between $200 and $350 a month in electric bills. no, i am NOT exaggerating in the least bit - the electric bills here are OBSCENE!! you pay pro-rata share of the building's HVAC costs, and in the winter we get bills upwards of $300. maybe if management would turn the heat down in the hallways since its about 95 degrees all the time.
since the windows to the apartments don't open, there is very little climate control in the units. yes, each unit has its own HVAC unit, but there were days in the winter when it would get extremely warm, and there was nothing we could do about it. if you like fresh air, good luck living here. i feel like i'm being deprived of oxygen and my brain cells are slowly dying.
finally, i understand i live in a city and i'm willing to accept the noise, but i think i could live without the dogs barking and instruments playing all night.
you can find better in center city... trust me.
