The Riverloft looks appealing from the outside, but inside is a different story.
The stench of mold and mildew due to flood damage and neglect is quite pungent when using the central cooling/heating system. Recently there was a fire in a second floor apartment and the whole floor was flooded. All Riverloft tenants were evacuated and not let back into their apartments for hours. As usual, in the following days there was no courtesy memo or explanation from management about what exactly happened. For the current manager, this is not unusual. A while back there was a security breach afterwhich, once again tenants received no explanation, however there was a warning on the lobby bulletin board that any tenant who accidently locked themselves out of their apartment would be charged $75 and be forced to wait hours to have a matinence man called out to the property to unlock their door.
There is no matinence help on the weekend, so if a problem arises, you're out of luck until the following Monday.
The 2nd floor copy machine rarely works, but of course management doesn't care because they use the one in the lobby which tenants are not suppossed to use.
The excersize room is littered with unusable, broken down weight and eliptical equipment.
The carpets are old, rarely cleaned and too often have the scent of dog urine.
Far too often the elevators don't work.
Many times during the year the hot water is shut off for hours without any courtesy memo from the manager.
Complaints are generally regarded as a nuisance by the manager.
And a warning to any resident doctor, professor or student cramming for exams. Be sure and answer your phone or a knock, if not, it's not out of the question to have management make the decision to have your door busted down -- and good luck getting it repaired in a timely manner.
With better mangement, The Riverloft might be OK, but under the present manager... IT'S A DISASTER.

Wow - I'm not sure where all of this is coming from - sounds like a completely different building from the one I lived in (August 2007-May 2009). I never had any of these problems and my experience was exactly the opposite. The management was very helpful and living there was an extremely pleasant experience from day 1 - no problems at all and easily tops all other rental experiences I've had. The experience of living there was as beautiful as the building looks. You'll pay a little extra to live in this building, but it was absolutely worth it - I'd live here again in a heartbeat if my job brought me back to Philadelphia.
