Yo!

Scary time - a must read for all residents in the building - the true face of the Mgmt.

This was the week of Christmas 06. I got locked out of my apartment with my year old son. There was something cooking on the cooking range so bwing locked out was obviously not deliberate. I ran down to the lobby in a state of panick and asked the person on duty to please let me into my apartment. The response was the staff had left for the vacation and the person on emergency service needed to be called. On asking him to do so, he did make the call and this person refered us to somebody else whose opening line was "u cannot lock youself out of the apt and then call us" My question - who locks themselves out deliberately'' Anyways he said it would take him an hr to get there. Luckily, I got in touch with my husband who rushed in and the door was opened, but after 45 minutes. We raised the question with the mgmt. because it was a potential fire hazard to the entire building. On speaking to this so called on call maintainence person we realised that he lived only 5 minutes away but since he was allowed a response time of an hour he decided to make full use of it. He refused to acknowledge that he was told that the cooking range was on while we were locked out whereas I had told him repeatedly, so much so that the security guard had it written in the log sheet as well. After a week we hear that the security guard (the most helpful of the lot) was asked to quit and the emergency maintainence fee raised to a $100, which by the way, the on call staff insist on mentioning over and over again before they respond to emergencies.
I have lived inthis building for more than two years now and up until it was Ambassador and had even a part of the old staff working, i never had any complaints. But, now after having faced this situation, I do not think it is a very safe place to live in. The only reson we are still living here is because our landlord (the condo owner) is an amazing guy and even though he lives in New Jersey, he is more prompt and quick in answering our requests than the maintainence staff who are seen all over the lobby every day.
