It's a coin toss

Years at this apartment: 2001 - 2004
I lived at St Laurent for about three years. I stayed there so long because it is what I could afford.
Maintenance was not that great. I had a leak in my ceiling from when we had a rainstorm. They came and painted over the stain the rain made. They never did anything about the mold that was growing inside the wall, which was possibly making me sick. I finally moved from this apartment for this main reason and then a few others. Also, my air conditioner was very old and also leaked when we had major rainstorms. It was fine with regular rain just not the heavy rain.
Children were always running around and playing in the parking lot out front of the apartments. They wouldnt' even move when you were driving towards them to park your car. Not only that but they would play games and sports near your car. I had several new scratches and knicks on my car, which I couldn't do anything about. If you have a new car, I would not recommend parking anywhere near the apartments. I would try to park as far away as possible.
The apartments have shared hallways and laundry rooms. No one has respect for this shared space. You will find gum, food, drink, cigarette butts and other kinds of materials on the rug in the hall. Some of the walls also have writing or gum on it. I do not know why maintenance doesn't take better care of this shared space. I was embarrassed to bring anyone over because they would make a judgement about my apartment based on how the hallway looked before they got into my apartment. Not a good first impression. The apartment itself had a nice layout. The rooms were a pretty decent size. I liked the kitchen and dining room layout. The water heater is shared by each apt complex so you will run into having hot and cold water on and off. Hot water because cold fast and was scolding at times.
The front office person Rose no longer works there. However, she was very rude and did smoke a lot in the office. It wasn't a pleasure having to go in there to speak with someone. I haven't had the experience of meeting the new office person but my friend who still lives there says it hasn't gotten any better.
So, if you have to move some place in the Northeast, I would say that this place is a toss up. If you don't mind kids possibly denting your car, don't mind the shared hall to be dirty as long as your apt is good and don't mind waiting for maintenence to come do a job, then you may like this place. I stayed there for three years and probably would have stayed longer if my roommate didn't want to move closer to her job; however, it had it's flaws just like any other place.
