Without a doubt, the Sterling is located in a perfect area in Center City and boasts very large apartments. However, in all honesty the only way I would remain in my current apartment in the Sterling is if I were getting a year of FREE RENT. John Ditko and the worthless assistant managers in the management office are, hands down, the WORST MANAGEMENT I HAVE EVER ENCOUNTERED. And don't think I haven't gone above the local management, and begged the regional AIMCO management to take care of the issues in my apartment. Well, the regional manager (Lynn Bora) does possess acceptable customer service... but still gets nothing done.
If you are looking for a large apartment that is in a great Center City location, sure move here. However, if you are over the age of 21 and desire a clean, properly maintained apartment, DO NOT MOVE HERE. Here are some examples of COMMON ISSUES ASSOCIATED WITH THE STERLING:
LEAKS, FLOODS, LEAKS within the apartments, and if you are REALLY lucky you will get to experience a leak so severe that it travels into the LOBBY, and the smell quite accurately resembles a sewer. No, really, this happens!

Broken A/C units! When summer temps reach 100*F! I hope you like it HOT!
Broken elevators! I hope you either live on a low floor, or enjoy walking the stairs. The best was when both the AC AND the elevators were broken! I was sweaty before I even left my apt in the morning. Oh, and I live on a high floor.
Now, my favorite shout out is for the "maintenance." What a horrible joke! They are union. If that doesn't explain things.. they do what they are paid to do, and nothing more. And if they are sloppy, lazy, and brain dead, well they are union. What do you expect' If they happen to dirty your carpet while they are in to do a job, oh the carpet is disgusting anyway, no biggie.
The front desk should NOT be called security. I had a stalker... and the "security" let him waltz into the building without signing the visitor log. When I told them a stalker had gotten into the building they blammed me for not telling them sooner... umm, if you were doing your JOB he would NOT have gotten in the building in the first place. And sometimes, late at night, the "security" had a small party at the front desk, complete with a boom box, food, and sometimes NO security! Fun times.
The gym equipment hasn't been cleaned since 1991. And some of the equipment is simply there for decoration... it's broken. I don't think it will be fixed, because I've been here for a year and it's always been broken.
Oh, and I can't bad mouth the valet service because I do love all of the valet's. However, they scratched the hell out of my brand new car. They are going to pay volvo to fix it... this is after I tipped all 10 of them $10 each. Thanks guys... Well, Abraham is the man, so no harsh words ever his way.
Anyway, I'll be happy to get out of here after my year. I will miss the location, and my friends in the building. But, I'd rather have a newer apartment... that doens't have John Ditko in the management office.

John--get the smirk off your face and do something about the roach infestation; the board of health, AIMCO, and some of our more prominant tenants should have an unhappy conversation about you.

I lived here for two years, and agree the John Ditko is an idiot. I wonder..who posts these really positive rating of the place? I'm thinking that management actually posts those themselves :-)
