I have never been so insulted in my life. They completely took advantage of me and ripped me off, once they found out I was not renewing. They could not have been nicer when they were trying to get me to renew. They do not care about anyone and are total money hungry scums. WARNING: IF YOU WANT TO MOVE OUT, GIVE THEM A WRITTEN NOTICE AT LEAST 60 DAYS BEFORE YOUR LEASE ENDS. ANY LATER THAN THAT AND YOU WILL HAVE TO PAY THEM ONE MONTH'S RENT AS A "LATE NOTICE FEE." Please, do not repeat my mistake. Even though 2 of their employees told me it was okay to give notice 30 days before, the management said they don't care because it's in the lease and I signed it. I had my brother-in-law (an attorney) read it and he said even though it's bullsh!t it would hold up. They have ZERO compassion for you once you sign your lease. And even less (if that's possible) once you terminate. They offer no incentive for renewing (that's not true, there was 4 car wash coupons available, which is more of an insult then an incentive) and will raise your rent everytime you are up for renewal. Two things I wanted: gym or workout center, washer/dryer. Both were promised to me ("oh yeah, you get a free membership to the health club"... true, but only for 3 months and after Great! Oh, wait, you can rent the hook ups for $25/mo and the washer/dryer for $35. Oh wait, turns out my apartment didn't HAVE w/d hookups. "Oh, maintenance will install them"... "oh, we don't do that any more." Thanks for getting me to sign the lease and then dicking me around forever and not following through! The WORST rental experience I've ever had. I paid $600 in deposits, had zero damage to the apartment, and still ended up owing them another $258 for giving them my move out notice 30 days before my lease ended, which is when their employees told me to have it in by!!! Horrible scammers. Nicely done though.

Not to argue at all...it's obvious how upset you are, but I honestly had a completely different experience at the Sterling so far. First off, the 60 days notice thing is in the lease...never believe anything someone tells you verbally because it's your word versus theirs and you lose. At my last apartment I needed to terminate my lease fewer than 60 days prior to it ending and I got stuck paying a month also...not fun I agree. But to see their side of it, they are likely not going to be able to find a tenant in just 4 weeks, so they'll probably be losing more money than you are required to shell out. I don't understand your washer/dryer issue because ours did have a washer/dryer unit in the apartment (with the hookup as well obviously). We didn't need to rent anything as far as that is concerned. But again, maybe for your unit that was the case. There's definitely not a ton of uniformity across different apartments in any building. Finally, I disagree that there is no incentive for renewal. True, they don't offer you a surprise party or anything like that, but they do have very fair annual increases in their rent. I've personally seen apartment companies increase rent by 8-10% or more each year you renew. The Sterling only increased our rent by about 4%, which is roughly the current rate of inflation! That's really fair...they aren't trying to make any more money from you as time goes on...they're just keeping up with inflation / increasing costs. I know this won't make you feel any better, but it's only fair that people looking for a new place to live see a balanced view.
