I would not recommend this apartment to anyone, for the following reasons:
1. Everything leaks. My washer decided one night to evacuate water all over floor and carpet while I was sleeping, which was a mess. After maintenance fixed the washer, they promised to have my carpets cleaned to prevent mildew...didn't happen. A dripping bathtub faucet turned quickly into a faucet that wouldn't turn off, so it was a constant outpouring of water that made my small apartment very humid. Maintenance was quick about fixing this, but left my bathtub an absolute mess. Also, the A/C unit is constantly leaking in the summer, leaving squishy carpet that begins to stink after a few days.
2. The security is ridiculous. The people in the morning are pretty nice...they say good morning at least. The people are night are obnoxious. They are not personable at all, they are loud , and they don't pay one bit of attention to anyone entering or exiting the building. These people do not make me feel any safer than if a bunch of monkeys were manning the front desk. One time, one of the guards left a slightly obscene letter on my apartment door with this phone number and such. How he knew my name and where I lived is beyond me... And when I went to management to complain about this, they did nothing. John Ditko was such an a-hole about the whole thing.
3. I don't keep any food or trash in my apartment at all. You would think that this would prevent roaches from entering my apartment, but it doesn't. This is probably because all the people on my floor are a bunch of d-bags that are too lazy to walk down to the dumpster to throw their trash out. Why go out of your way when you can just throw pizza boxes on the floor of the trash room' Or better yet, I love it when they try to throw oversized crap down the trash chute so it gets backed up and remains backed up for days...and even when its backed up, people just keep throwing their crap on the floor! HOW LAZY CAN YOU BE'! So, needless to say, I've had roaches on several occasions...which is absolutely disgusting.
4. There are various other small complaints such as:
- the dryer that exhausts into the apartment and turns my apartment into a sauna. In the winter, my dryer substitutes for my heater which isn't bad...but in the summer its unbearable.
- the constantly rising rent...its been upped $300 since I started living here
- the parking is ridiculous...the guys are nice, but my car, which was new when I moved here, is all banged up. Each week I find some new scratch or dent to cry about.
Hopefully someone finds this review helpful. I am looking to leave the Sterling, however it's location is very convenient to go to school / work.

I agree 0. I have had a housefly problem over the course of several weeks and could not figure out where they were coming from. I keep my apt clean. I would see these flies like 3-4 times a day. I called an exterminator and they came and so far so good. Security is horrible. The people in the morning are quite pleasant but beware after 5. They are mean, careless, lazy, unattentive, etc. I am currently looking for a new place to live.

I can sympathize. My washer did the same thing... TWICE. Maintenance "fixed" the problem on two separate occasions. When we run the dryer, our apartment feels like the rain forest.
We also had roaches. We keep no food or garbage in the apartment since we don't cook or eat there. However, we found a very large roach in the bathroom one morning. Later on, it was spotted in two bedrooms. The exterminator refused to spray in the bedrooms because roaches "only come up with the pipes". I argued that since the roach was seen in both bedrooms, that warrants a spray of those areas. He came back 3 times (over 2 weeks) before the apartment was sprayed as originally requested.
I agree, the location is great. But I pay a ridiculous amount of money for a less-than-luxury apartment. I would be happy to live elsewhere when my lease is up.

I've lived there since May 06. Loved it at first, but have seen it gradually deteriorate. Problems seemed to arise after the rent increases last year. I think that pushed a lot of people out and subsequently left empty apartments (as evidenced by the spiffy new "Homes available!" sign outside our front door on JFK. So i'm guessing rent revenues are down and management is trying to skimp in other areas to make up for the shortfall. Greed is punished AIMCO, hope you're realizing that this year.

I 100% agree with you. I lived in the Sterling for about 4 years and just moved out in August. I could not stand it anymore. Just like you, my washer/dryer leaked (all the way out in the living room) twice. And, it took them FOREVER to fix it, always coming up with an excuse. Thank God I work for a real estate company who know senior people at AIMCO. I actually had to get them involved after not having a w/d for over two weeks. After one of the leaks, I had two huge blowers in my apartment for a week. Management said they would clean but carpets but to no avail. Another time the w/d actually leaked out into the common hallway. I did not even know it was leaking until the front desk called me. Along with the w/d leaking BOTH A/C units leaked leaving my carpet constantly moist. Then, there were the mice and roachs. Not a night went by that I did not see a mouse run across my living floor or out of my bedroom. Oh, and the noise. I understand it is a high-rise and it can be noisy but I used to get weekly phone calls from the front desk in the middle of night (3 or 4 am) inquiring about the noise coming from my apartment. The kicker was I was either dead asleep and on several instants not even home!! The best was when I had already moved out and the front desk called me twice in a week to inform that my door was open. I didn't even live there anymore. Then there was also the random water shut-offs, the constant fire alarms and the unattentive management. I agree the location is great and I do miss the convenience but I DO NOT FOR A MINUTE miss the aggrevation of the living at the Sterling. I would never recommend living here.
