I've been living at the Sterling since Summer 2003, and the fact that I've renewed my lease twice says I haven't hated it. It's a very big building (30 floors, roughly 30 units/floor). On the plus side, this means that there is a gym, pool, polling place for elections, dry cleaners, etc. On the down side, I don't know my neighbors, the front desk people don't know the residents, you will have to leave the building every month or two with a fire alarm triggered by someone many floors away, etc. The south side of the building can be loud on lower floors (particularly during morning and evening rush hour, quieter at night), so if noise bothers you and you around during these hours, be sure to take an apartment on the north side. Walls are thick, and I've been very positely impressed by how hard it is to hear neighbors. The maintenance has generally been prompt and competent, though honestly it hasn't been perfect. (A recent non-emergency repair request was handled the following day, but they broke a picture frame in the process, but left a note apologizing for it.) Management hasn't been very flexible or friendly, but I've had no sense they are dishonest or grossly incompetent. The monthly billing for rent could be done better, but this isn't a big deal. When I move after 3 years, it will likely be because I want a more nonstandard layout and a small building, not because I want to move to a similar place in a different building.
