Could be better, but certainly not the worst place around

I found this site after searching for a toilet handle in this zipcode, only to find someone else who in the same building who just had their handle break as well. I just assumed it was from over-use, but now that I see the problem isn't only mine, I wonder if it was possible for the owners to use any lower quality fixtures than they did. The toilet handle problem is symptomatic of the state of things here at the sponge factory, our hardwood floors have their finish peeling off, our kitchen cabinets are hung at an obvious slant, and for a while, when it rained heavily, water dripped in through the window, and through a ventilation fan in the roof. The maintenance staff is actually quite friendly, and I like them, and they tend to be reasonably responsive, but the overall quality of the work could certainly be higher. I think its the management company's fault for going with the cheapest of everything though, such as nailed down vinyl tile in the hallways, and linoleum squares for the bedroom & kitchen. Some people complain about the thin walls and floors, but we rarely have that problem. For a while (about 6 months) the front-door buzzer system didn't work, but they finally replaced that, and we haven't had a problem since.
Honestly, biggest problem is that all the tenants with dogs tend to take their dogs out to the small courtyard area, which ends up smelling awful, and feels like torture for those of us in the building who don't actually care to have pets.
While the sponge factory apartments aren't a place I would want to live forever, they do serve the purpose for now, and are considerably cheaper than what you can get on the south side of Girard in NL proper.
