Not worth the cost and aggrivation

As for the apartment itself... it's ok. Unless you are willing to put some money into making the space interesting and livable, it will just be a huge room with stuff everywhere. We didn't want to invest the money because we knew we'd move at the end of our lease. The fixtures they use are super crappy. If you walk around Home Depot you'll see they just went for the cheapest solution. The sink is so shallow you cannot fill up a pitcher of water. The bathroom door fell off and we saw that they had used cardboard to help fasten the crappy door to the hinges. But the kitchen size is really nice. I'll miss having the island!
It cost us about $200 a month to heat and cool the apartment (if we were using the heat/AC all the time). And that was with the thermostat set to 68 degrees in the winter and 80 degrees in the summer. There is basically no insulation in the floor, ceiling, or around the windows so your hot/cold air just escapes.
There's an elevator, which is nice. The space is huge, and management takes pretty good care of the shared spaces. We never had any problems with bugs or mice. The pet deposit is cheap ($50 for cats, $75 for dogs), and parking is cheap ($25/mo). And the neighborhood is wonderful. There were some car burglaries on Lawrence (street behind the building), but no real violence and no home burglaries while we were there.
But now for the really bad stuff...
I read the reviews before moving in, but couldn't believe it could the THAT noisy. We loved the neighborhood and all of the space, so we signed a lease. I found out within the first week that this was going to be a challenging experience. Our upstairs neighbors had two dogs, and they would leave their chain leashes on when they got back in from a walk and the chain would drag for at least an hour and make sooo much noise. Then one day while we had friends over some kind of liquid began pouring from the ceiling... it was dog pee. We later found out that there were small holes and cracks in the floor/ceiling and when the dog would pee in the apartment it would just go all over our stuff. We talked to the neighbors and they did absolutely nothing but give us an attitude and continue to allow their dog to pee everywhere. Management was really good about everything, and said if we gave them any cleaning bills they would take it out of their security deposit. The neighbors also blasted music all weekend, and the one time I asked them to turn it down the mean one said, "It's Friday. Chill" True, it was Friday but I also had to work early on Saturday morning. Those lovely neighbors moved out 2 months into our lease, so we were thrilled...
...Until the most annoying downstairs neighbors moved in a month later. The sound insulation is so nonexistent that I can actually hear my neighbor snore at night. I know what movies they like to watch because I can hear those every night before I go to bed. I also know that they cannot sing and are kind of tone deaf because they insist of singing at the top of their lungs just about every day. I can also hear them fight, play video games, study, and I can smell how much pot they smoke. Basically I feel like I've had 2 extra roommates that don't help pay my rent!
There are a lot of dogs in the building, so if you don't like barking during the day (sometimes at night) just keep on looking. Most of the tenants are friendly, though. Parking on the lot has never been a problem, and everyone usually parks in their own spots.
