I moved here from TN and found this place online at apartmentguide.com. Compared to every other place in the area, it seemed like it was the best. The only problem i had at the time was it doesnt allow pets (but the maintenance men say the only one who enforces the rule is the lady who takes your check at the office who never ventures around the property). Hell, ive walked by kids playing with a golden retriever in broad daylight in front of their townhome. Anyways, i liked what i read and saw from the pictures and put a deposit down and moved to philly a few weeks later.
When i got here, i thought i landed in the ghetto. There was graffiti all over the place and trash spewed around the complex. However, i guess i just had to get used to living in philly after coming from nashville, so that turned out to be better than average. Anyways, the townhome was nice, but there were many small issues that i had to write down to remind them when my lease was up that it was like that already, such as, a badly stained old rug, cracks in the walls, etc.
Now for the good stuff. The townhome is close to 1,000 sq feet and only cost $750 per month INCL water, heat and gas! In philly thats good, not to mention being literally around the corner from a 7-11, a gas station, video rentals, pizza delivery places, bars, and of course, Franklin Mills Mall and a huge variety of restaurants and fast food places. Also, maintenance responds pretty quick and are courteous.
Ive lived here for 2 years and never saw or heard of any robberies, vandalism, etc. except the fact that some jackass scraped my car while trying to parallel park on the street (there is a parking lot, but it is mostly filled by 5pm). For a side note, my $750 townhome was for the 2 bedroom, its two floors, well lit, nice size master bedroom with decent sized second bedroom and bathroom, kitchen is cramped but ok, central a/c and heat with a thermostat that you control (not management), huge walk-in closet upstairs with another downstairs, and there supposedly is security patrolling at night, but i havent seen them yet and ive been here for 2 years now (my wife has seen them once or twice though, so it probably is true).
I wanted a dog and a place with a garage and lawn, so we looked around for a better place-there isnt one. We ended up giving up on the dog and settling for the fact that Regency is the best place within its area (however, washer/dryer connections severely limited our options of places that MAY have been a little better)
Forgot one thing: Roaches. Yeah, they live in your place too and you arent gonna get rid of them. We would get exterminations (provided free by maintenance) but all that seemed to do was run them to your neighbors behind and on both sides of you. Then, when the smoke cleared, the ------- would be back again to claim their half of the kitchen and bathroom. Ive also encountered a few exotic looking spider species, but they are far and in between sightings. The roaches, however, are almost a daily occurrence. As sick as it sounds, IVE GOTTEN USED TO THEM AND I USED TO HAVE A PHOBIA OF ROACHES!!! Hell, i killed one, i believe 2 nights ago and another the night before that, and thats only in winter. Summertime at Regency is the Hamptons to roaches: they flock in uncontrollable drones so love em or leave em.
