Seemed great at first, but I can't wait to leave

The place seemed really great at first. When I started renting 3 years ago, I only paid $590/mo with all utilities except electric included for my first floor studio with hardwood floors and high ceilings.

Then, there was the issue of the mail. There is NO WAY to receive any packages from anyone other than USPS at the building unless you happen to be at your apartment in the middle of the day during the week when they deliver AND your intercom works (it doesn't). You can see this by the many notes outside the main door urging UPS/Fedex to call a cell phone number to let the tenant know they're outside since no one's intercom properly works or to simply leave the package and take the risk that someone might steal it because otherwise it will get shipped back. Consequently, I have never been able to receive many important packages at the apartment.

I have also had packages that were delivered by USPS stolen by other tenants in the building. You would think that this wouldn't happen in such a "nice" area, but it does. I had my birthday presents from my best friend in Seattle stolen this past year.

A tenant was also recently held hostage in his apartment for 12 HOURS by two individuals who bound him to a chair and forced him to give over all his money, credit cards, debit card with pin. Despite this going on for 12 HOURS, no one apparently noticed. This is the sort of the community you will be living in.

Also, the "laundry room" is really disgusting, very dirty, and there are only two washers and dryers for the entire building (at least 30 tenants), and only one of the washers has worked at any given time. They are consequently never available so I do my stuff at the laundromat.

The apartment is also very poorly insulated. They crank the heat up so high I feel like I want to open a window, but then very soon it gets freezing cold, and I mean freezing. I have contacted them several times about that but they have nothing to tell me. So I just wear a winter coat inside for such occasions.

This past weekend I realized I had lost my keys just 10 minutes after the UCH office closed at 6pm on Friday. I called the emergency line and got some woman who told me that the person I needed to talk to was not available and that she would take a message. It didn't matter that I was locked out and that my cat was inside. There were no arrangements in order to take care of someone getting locked out even just minutes after the office closed for the weekend. I waited all weekend for a phone call, and was luckily able to stay with a sympathetic friend. That did nothing to help the fact that all of the materials I need for class are in the apartment and that was my cat is probably starving right now. They have done absolutely nothing.

So, as I said, I will be very eager to leave this apartment and live somewhere where the landlord will at least be around to give me a set of keys when I get locked out.

I've had similar issues with this company. Absolutely terrible customer service and extremely slow responses...taking several days to weeks to fix serious issues with the building. They don't seem to care what really happens in the building, and they make sure they cover it all in their lease...so if anything goes wrong they aren't really responsibile or provide minimal compensation. I'm definitely moving out at the end of my lease. I've had enough.
