Pleasant experience overall

Overall, the year I spent living at Upsal Gardens was pleasant.

I had to make a couple maintenance calls over the year and in each case maintenance responded within a reasonable time frame.

I didn't have any issues with bugs/rodents/etc.

Regarding the building manager Cheryl, the few times I interacted with her, it wasn't a bad experience - you just need to take her with a grain of salt.

Several people mentioned the trash pick-up. I would agree that it didn't come at convenient times. A dumpster was located right outside my apartment, so believe me they are quite loud. During the weekdays, it wouldn't bother me, because I was up for work by the time they came. However, they would come very early Saturday mornings, which is my sleeping in day - after awhile I just got used to them and was able to fall back to sleep or sleep right through them.

The last person commented on noise from neighbors. What can I say, it's apartment living. You can't expect to move into an apartment and have complete and utter silence - especially in an older building with hardwood floors that make noise carry even more. I could hear almost every footstep of my neighbor above, including her big dog's. Their voices carried as well. Again, these are things that come along with apartment living.

Some positives are that parking is convenient in back of the building (as long as you are the one with the tag); the decor of the apartments is really awesome especially if you are into the style older buildings bring (hardwood floor, crown molding, etc.); convenient to Chestnut Hill, Manayunk, and Downtown; I have a dog, so I often headed outside to walk her, I always felt safe; most people were nice and easy going, except for the neighbor upstairs who was in her late 20s/early 30s and complained about noise like she was in her 80s.

Some complaints, the windows are difficult to open due to the layers of paint - once opened a couple times - okay; can't control heat - just need to open a window sometimes.

I was actually sad to leave the apartment, because overall it was nice.

Good luck to anyone who decides to rent here - I hope you have as much of a pleasant experience as I did.
