Can't wait to get out of here...

Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2007
As I sit here through yet another piercingly loud and incredibly disturbing fire alarm I am thankful that I will soon be moving out of the Vida. I've now lived here for two years and I have never found an apartment complex and landlord to be more frustrating or infuriating. Where to begin' When we first moved in things seemed fine. The washer and dryer broke occasionally (it continued to get much worse) but that didn't seem like a huge deal. We also had a fridge with no handle and an oven with no knobs or burners which we complained about for several months before anything was done. Then we saw one mouse, but we figured, what the heck, it's the city right' We laid some traps down and killed our mouse. Then we saw another, and another and another and laid more traps and caught more mice. Despite serious complaints it took months for an exterminator to come and all he did was just lay more traps. Great, free traps, we saved 90 cents. We talked with our neighbors who also had mice infestations and a few said that huge holes in their walls had been repaired. We had seen no repairman in our own building. One day when I was home (after we'd killed 12 mice our own) when the exterminator came by. He asked if the hole behind our stove had been fixed and I said, "what hole'" He said that for months he had been telling the landlord that all of our mice were coming through one hole that needed to be fixed and he was furious that nothing had been done. A few weeks later a repairman came and fixed the hole (and destroyed the rest of our kitchen.) After that the mice problem went away. Next was the fire alarms. We awoke one night at 2 in the morning to the alarm and went outside- no fire. We were then awoken again at 4 and again at 5. When I came home after work exhausted that day to take a nap another alarm went off at 4 p.m. The alarms did this, would occasionally break and go off all night or all day about four more times. The other annoying problems are that the hot water kept going off for days at a time and that the Cosi that is right below us plays incredibly loud music and workers can be really loud in the alley right below us. I'm am incredibly tired of living in a place where requests are almost never answered and you have to beg to get anything fixed. A lot of young people live in this building and it is the general feeling that no one pays attention to the Vida because we are a bunch of young people who don't complain or pay enough. Anyway, needless to say I am happy to be leaving soon and would NOT recommend the Vida or Philadelphia Management Company to anyone, ever!
