8 months ago, my only complaints would have been that the heat (which you have no control over) is kept too high and you have to leave your windows open in the dead of winter to feel somewhat comfortable (which isn't very safe, I might add), and the walls and doors are hardly sound-proof.
However, when I gave my termination notice, I was informed that I was "breaking my lease" and would be charged a penalty. The office manager at the time (who has since been let go, go figure) conveniently "lost" my original letter and was holding ME accountable. I had a copy of my letters, but according to them that was still not good enough. Even after living there for almost 3 years, and always paying my rent on time, the main office (Westover Companies) couldn't have cared less and wouldn't even consider the possibility that I was telling the truth. So I did what I had to do and took them to court. They of course delayed the process as long as possible and tried to intimidate me by hiring a lawyer, but I ended up getting my money back - which certainly did not cover all the stress I went through over THEIR mistake. All I can say is that you must get a copy of everything you give them. If you give them any kind of letter, take two copies to the office and have them sign the one for your records. Also, if they try to pull anything funny - go straight to the better business bureau to file a complaint. You have rights as a tenant - take them to court if you have to.
