Looking ahead

I've taken the time to read thru 2 pages of postings on Westridge and am surprised at what I've seen. It seems like the people that have been displeased with their stay have received nastier comments from people responding to their opinions than they left in their post in the first place. I would like to express my opinions, good and bad.
I feel that the rent is high for the quality of the apartment.
Parking: It is okay, but can be an issue finding a spot if a neighbor is having a party. Also, there are tenants who have 2-3 cars and feel the need to keep all of them in front of the apartment. So, one assigned parking spot per apartment is not much to ask for, especially to assist the elderly tenants, and ones with small children.
Noise: We can hear the upstairs tenant pounding up and down the stairs that share our LR walls. We can hear the alarm clocks of the tenants who back our BR walls early in the morning. We can hear dogs barking inside. Dogs bark, it's what they do. People who complain about this should specify if the dog is perpetually barking, or if it's once in a while. I'm sure the neighbor would get a call (although I can't guarantee how pleasant) from the property manager if she knew it was a problem for you.
Grounds: The landscaping is nice. The bushes aren't overgrown, and the lawns are well-maintained.
Safety: Although I think a little more lighting in the parking lots wouldn't hurt, I've never had any issues with safety here. I do agree that it would be nice for the windows to open from the top though. I would feel better sleeping with the windows open on the first floor if they were opened from the top, and I can certainly understand about people commenting about this if they have kids - especially on the second floor.
Construction: It would be nice if the apartments were better insulated for sound, but it's not like they're going to rebuild to suit our requests. You can usually hear your 2nd story neighbors using the shower, sink, toilet but I dont know what can be done to fix that either.
Maintenance: The maintenance guys seem to be okay. They've definitely gotten better in the last year or so. While they do fix issues, they could take a little more care when entering the home (wiping their feet, better clean-up post-maintenance, etc.)
Office Staff: She was very helpful when we moved in. She seems very willing to stick up for you if you have an issue with your neighbor. Tact, confidentiality and professionalism are the issues. She needs to seperate herself from the issue and maintain a professional demeanor. This is not a personal attack. She lives here, so of course she wants to see the place clean, safe and quiet. Maybe some managerial and etiquette training would help, but she does do her job.
I think everything we do is a learning experience, and has been apartment living, especially here. Our lease is up in a few months, and we've opted not to renew. Overall, I'd say this might be a good apartment for a short term, maybe to get your bearings on the area while looking for a home, like we have. I wish everyone the best.
