Run Away!

This apartment seemed great when I first saw it. Clean, freshly painted, cheap, secure building, and it had on-site laundry. What a deal, I thought!

Three years later, I can tell you this. The rental company loves to give me the run-around about when they're going to fix things. There is mold growing on my back bedroom wall because the exterior wall is cracked and they "can't fix it", my hot water tap in the bathroom has been dripping at the rate of a gallon each day for four months now, the laundry room is freezing cold, filthy, badly lit and terrifying, the pipes from the upper bathrooms leak into the lower apartments causing ceiling collapse, the parking spaces out front are full of cars that have literally not moved in _months_, the "secure" building is not secure in the least, the the walls are paper-thin, and the neighbors delight in playing extremely loud music at all hours of the night. The landlord also claims that this is a "pet friendly" building, but refuses to allow pets. How does that work'

I found out two months after I moved in that the landlord only cleans the building when he is showing apartments to prospective renters. My bathroom ceiling collapsed because of a continuous leak from upstairs and it took them six months to send someone out to fix it, despite my daily phonecalls. The basement windows are all broken out, and it is a haven for stray cats which "mark" things in the storage units. I've had 2 plush chairs in the storage area ruined by the smell of cat urine and feces staining. There are two washers and two driers, but 2 out of the 4 machines are invariably broken and are often not fixed for months at a time. As of today, there has been a break-in of some sort and our "security doors" are suddenly lacking knobs or locks.

I do not feel safe in this building. I'm constantly in fear of someone breaking in and hurting me or destroying my belongings. I don't feel secure about going to the basement to do laundry. I'm afraid that the ceiling is going to utterly fall in on me. I'm tired of the music at all hours and the landlord denying any responsibility for cleaning the common areas of the building. I'm sick of the 4 inches of ice and slush on the walkway into the building. I'm tired of freezing inside my apartment (current temp. is 48 degrees Fahrenheit in the living room) because the landlord controlls the heat (I don't even have a thermostat) and refuses to turn it up. I'm getting out of here ASAP, probably with a call to the housing apartment. I'm tired of living in conditions like this for the amount that I pay.

I advise you to run away, as far and as fast as you can. Don't rent from theese slumlords, please. You would probably get better conditions living under a bridge somewhere, to be quite honest.
