Allegheny Center is a nice place, located a block from the ghetto, but it has a library, museum, and a small, park-like, safe sort of region. It is located in the Northside, about a five-minute walk from downtown, and has parking, but watch out for rowdy Art Institute and Culinary students. Luckily, their buildings are separate from yours ( 6, 7) And there are security guards in the buildings that keep the peace, usually. But the students do play loud music and many wander drunkenly through the park. Crime is not rampant here for some reason though, and the building maintinence is excellent. Overall, I give this apartment complex a 7 out of 10, because the location is good, the crime, even though the location is kind of near the ghetto, even with a huge porno theater down the street, is relatively low, and the park of allegheny center, (which is right next to the old mall) has security. And walkways and sidewalks are well-lit. It also has a very nice park/statue/landscaping. Serene. Even has a fountain that is on 25% of the time. And you can see fireworks from the very nearby Heinz field throughout baseball season...VERY close to the stadium, but far enough away to not have to deal with the crowd.
So, if you don't mind rowdy students a few hundred yards away on weekends, and if you don't mind being surrounded by the ghetto, but not being actually IN the ghetto, then this place is for you.
